CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt REPORTS TO: Deposit Operations Manager DATE: October 8, 2026 JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective The Operations Fraud Analyst
- Team Lead serves as the senior subject matter resource for fraud monitoring and investigation across ACH, wire transfers, Zelle, online banking, and check processing. In addition to independently handling complex or high-risk cases, this role provides day-to-day workflow coordination, quality review, peer guidance, procedure support, and escalation assistance. The position does not supervise employees or hold formal performance-management authority. It helps ensure fraud alerts are resolved timely, consistently, and in accordance with applicable regulations, network rules, risk thresholds, and Bank procedures.
Essential Functions

Serve as the primary day-to-day operational resource for Fraud Analysts by answering process questions, clarifying procedures, and supporting consistent decisioning without exercising supervisory authority.
Coordinate daily alert queues, case assignments, coverage, and priority escalations to support service levels and timely resolution. Independently review and disposition complex, high-risk, or escalated fraud alerts involving ACH, wire transfers, Zelle, online banking, and check transactions. Analyze transaction activity, account history, customer behavior, device information, and related indicators to identify fraud, account takeover, scams, or unauthorized activity.
Determine and execute appropriate actions within assigned authority, including transaction approval or rejection, account restrictions, blocks, returns, loss-mitigation steps, and management escalation. Perform transaction-specific reviews, including ACH returns and adjustments under NACHA rules; high-risk, duplicate, or socially engineered wire activity; Zelle scam and account-takeover alerts; unusual online-banking access or transaction patterns; and counterfeit, altered, forged, duplicate, or encoding-related check items.
Perform secondary review or quality checks of selected investigations and alert dispositions to confirm accuracy, documentation quality, procedural compliance, and appropriate escalation. Coach and cross-train analysts on fraud typologies, investigative methods, systems, procedures, documentation standards, and sound judgment.
Provide factual workflow and quality observations to the manager as requested. Identify recurring fraud patterns, control gaps, process breakdowns, or emerging risks and recommend procedural, system, or control improvements to management. Assist management with maintaining procedures, job aids, escalation standards, training materials, and workflow guidance.
Coordinate with branches, customer service, digital banking, deposit operations, BSA/AML, Information Security, and other partners to gather information and resolve cases efficiently. Document investigations, decisions, approvals, and actions clearly and accurately to support internal controls, audits, regulatory reviews, and management reporting.
Support fraud-related account controls, customer notifications, recovery efforts, and loss mitigation in accordance with assigned authority and Bank procedures. Ensure all actions comply with applicable laws and regulations, network rules, confidentiality requirements, and internal fraud and deposit-operations policies.
Other Duties Complies with all policies and procedures applicable to the Bank’s BSA/AML program. Scans, images, and indexes documents as requested or needed. Stays informed of relevant compliance requirements, fraud trends, payment-network rules, and operational changes. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills/Abilities Advanced analytical and investigative skills with the ability to evaluate complex activity, connect related indicators, and make timely risk-based decisions.
Working knowledge of ACH, wire transfers, Zelle, online banking, and check processing, including relevant operating and network requirements. Ability to serve as a technical lead and influence consistent outcomes through expertise, judgment, coaching, and collaboration rather than direct authority. Strong quality-review, documentation, organizational, and case-management skills.
Ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate workflow, and escalate issues based on risk, customer impact, financial exposure, and required response time. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain decisions and requirements to internal stakeholders. Ability to identify process and control gaps and develop practical recommendations.
Proficiency with core banking and fraud-monitoring systems, including Silver. Lake, and Microsoft Office applications.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, criminal justice, or a related field preferred. Minimum four years of banking, fraud, deposit operations, payments, or related investigative experience required, including at least two years of direct fraud investigation, fraud operations, or transaction-monitoring experience.
Demonstrated experience independently resolving complex fraud cases, applying risk-based judgment, and documenting defensible decisions required. Prior experience providing peer training, quality review, workflow coordination, procedure development, or subject matter expertise preferred. Experience with ACH, wire, check, Zelle, online-banking, or deposit-account fraud strongly preferred.
Relevant fraud, payments, or financial-crime certification is a plus. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Team Lead provides functional guidance, workflow coordination, peer coaching, and quality support but does not hire, discipline, complete performance evaluations, approve time, or otherwise exercise formal management authority.
Work Environment This job operates in an office setting. The opportunity to telework is not available. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Job duties are conducted by telephone, in face-to-face meetings, and on the computer. Physical Demands This position requires manual dexterity and the ability to lift files and open cabinets.
Bending, stooping, or standing may be required. Travel Limited local travel may be required for this position. For Applicants located in Preston, Maryland (MD): The anticipated salary range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00 per hour. For Applicants from all other locations: The salary will be based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
The ranges listed for Maryland represent the good-faith compensation the Company expects to pay for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and business needs.
This position may also be eligible for additional compensation, such as bonuses or incentive pay, where applicable.
