Shredder Maintenance Technician Position Summary Foss Recycling Inc. is seeking an experienced Shredder Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our industrial metal shredding equipment and related processing systems. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on industrial shredders and associated equipment.

The technician will work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to identify problems, complete repairs, and minimize equipment downtime. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills, experience working with heavy industrial equipment, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.

Essential Responsibilities Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial metal shredders and related processing equipment. Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair motors, bearings, belts, drives, conveyors, and other mechanical components. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.

Troubleshoot electrical components, including wiring, sensors, motors, motor controls, and related systems. Assist with troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and industrial control systems as qualified. Inspect, service, and repair hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and related components. Inspect and maintain pneumatic systems and associated equipment.

Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment repairs as needed. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair conveyor systems associated with shredder operations. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and work to safely restore equipment to operation. Perform routine inspections and maintenance to identify potential equipment problems before failures occur.

Complete equipment cleaning and maintenance to help reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life. Follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or repairs. Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts used. Communicate equipment conditions, repair needs, and safety concerns to management.

Coordinate maintenance activities with operations personnel to minimize production interruptions. Assist with maintaining an organized inventory of commonly used maintenance parts and supplies. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Technical training or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, welding, or a related field preferred. Three (3) to five (5) years of industrial equipment maintenance experience preferred. Experience with heavy machinery, recycling equipment, manufacturing equipment, or similar industrial systems preferred.

Previous experience maintaining industrial shredders or recycling equipment is a plus. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, sensors, wiring, and controls preferred. Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting preferred. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Welding and fabrication experience, including MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding, preferred. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and other maintenance tools. Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, diagrams, schematics, and maintenance instructions. Forklift, rigging, OSHA, electrical, hydraulic, welding, or other relevant industrial certifications are a plus.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices. Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and work effectively as part of a team. Dependable attendance and punctuality required. Must be able to successfully complete company-required pre-employment screening. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, climb, and perform physical maintenance work for extended periods.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required. Ability to safely climb ladders, platforms, and equipment to perform inspections and repairs. Ability to work at heights when required. Ability to work in confined spaces when properly trained and authorized. Ability to safely work around heavy machinery, moving equipment, scrap metal, conveyors, and industrial processing systems.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Work environment may include exposure to noise, dust, dirt, heat, grease, metal debris, moving equipment, and other conditions common to industrial recycling operations. Must maintain awareness of surroundings while working around heavy machinery and industrial equipment.
