Please provide the following documents : Cover Letter Resume/CV Work Study Permit Undergraduate Safe-Walk Student Employee Undergraduate Student Worker or Work Study Safe Walk Program Job Description: Under the direction of the Chief of University Police or his designee, the Safe Walk Student Employee (SWSE) will assist in accompanying students and staff to vehicles and other buildings during evening hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities, or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  1. Good verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, and external contacts.
  2. Ability to use a cell phone.
  3. Ability to adhere to all University Policies and Procedures, Community Standards, Texas State Law, and Federal Laws/Regulations. Required Qualifications All applicants for the Safe-Walk program must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  4. Minimum age of seventeen (17);
  5. Current undergraduate student at East Texas A&M University; a. Must be enrolled at least half-time. b. Must have a good academic and conduct record.
  6. Pass a background investigation that includes the following: a. Personal history; b. A fingerprint-based criminal history search, including all arrests, locations, dates, and dispositions. I. This search may be completed by the East Texas A&M Police Department and/or the East Texas A&M University Department of Human Resources. c. A letter of reference from one (1) faculty or staff member employed at East Texas A&M University or a high school teacher/staff if applicant is a freshman. I. The letter must refer to the applicant’s good moral character.
  7. Pass an oral interview;
  8. Have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff;
  9. Ability to use a cellular phone;
  10. Any other standard(s) set by law or by the policy of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, East Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University System, or requirements set by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS). DISQUALIFIERS FOR EMPLOYMENT A. The following are absolute disqualifiers for employment:
  11. Conviction or admission of any felony or a conviction or admission of a Class A or Class B misdemeanor;
  12. An open disposition on any felony charge or a Class A or Class B misdemeanor;
  13. Admission of marijuana use within the past two years, or any other illegal drug within the past five years;
  14. Any conviction of family violence;
  15. Any history as a respondent to a protective order;
  16. Dishonorable or less than honorable discharge from the military;
  17. Work hours that coincide with scheduled university classes. B. The following may be a disqualifier for employment:
  18. Any student code of conduct or referral history from within the East Texas A&M Police Department or from any other law enforcement agency. Work Hours: Shift A: Sun 7 pm - 12 am Mon 8 pm - 1 am Tues 8 pm - 1 am (alternating) Shift B: Tues 8 pm - 1 am (alternating) Wed 8 pm - 1 am Thurs 8 pm - 1 am 10hrs one week and 15hrs the following week. Essential Job Duties Job Duties
  19. To provide Safe Walks to students and staff as requested.
  20. Safe Walks will only be made to the destination dispatched. Other stops on the way will not be permitted.
  21. Safe Walk employees are not permitted inside any vehicle or residential structure, or use their personal vehicles for any purpose while working.
  22. Services will run with the first Safe Walk pickup 15 minutes into the start of the shift and the last pickup beginning at 11:45 p.m. Hours may be modified according to seasonal daylight hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use their hands to grasp a cell phone or other provided device. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee should be able to frequently walk the distance from one end of the campus to the other.

The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee must have sufficient vision and hearing to monitor the surroundings. Reasonable accommodation may be available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. SWSEs will work from multiple buildings on the ETAMU campus. When requested to provide a Safe-Walk, they will accompany the person(s) to their building or vehicle. They will be required to communicate in English and communicate their activity to the telecommunicator via a provided cell phone or other devices.

Duties are typically performed in a setting with low to moderate noise levels. The employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Required Documents
