Role Summary

The Substitute Teacher assumes the duties of the regular classroom teacher to deliver lesson plans, maintain classroom discipline, and foster a safe, positive learning environment. Reporting directly to the Building Principal or Assistant Principal, you will follow teacher instructions, assist students with daily assignments, and ensure school policies are respected throughout the day.

Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications) Credentialed Educator: Must hold and maintain a valid, active Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate (or a valid Missouri Professional Educator License). Educationally Prepared: Minimum educational requirements must meet the standards set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for substitute certification (e.

g., completion of 36 semester hours of college credit or approved substitute training). Adaptability Expert: Proven ability to adapt quickly to different school environments, subject areas, and grade levels (K-12). Classroom Commander: Strong classroom management techniques with the ability to maintain structure, order, and mutual respect among students.

Effective Communicator: Exceptional interpersonal skills to read and execute lesson plans, assist scholars, and leave detailed progress notes for the returning teacher. Your Impact (Key Duties) Instructional Continuity: Review and execute daily lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and on-task.

Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment by enforcing standard classroom rules and district discipline codes in a fair and just manner. Student Support: Provide individual and small-group assistance to scholars working through assignments, worksheets, or creative projects. Safety Supervision: Assume all scheduled supervisory duties for the regular teacher, including monitoring hallways, lunchrooms, recess, or arrival/dismissal zones.

Professional Reporting: Maintain accurate student attendance logs and write a clear summary of the day's progress, behaviors, and completed work for the returning teacher. Emergency Readiness: Familiarize yourself with building safety drills, emergency exit maps, and lock-down protocols to keep students entirely safe.
