Job description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Retail Manager to join the team at a well known Supermarket brand based at a Education Institute within Bristol. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Retail Manager in the day-to-day operations of the store, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining product availability, and achieving commercial targets.

Job Purpose: Deputise for the Retail Manager, leading the team to deliver the best customer experience aligned with the Morrisons Daily brand. Maintain high levels of commercial performance, taking ownership of the store and driving continuous improvement.

Collaborate with the Retail Manager to innovate and enhance the store's offerings. Lead all people activities, including recruitment, training, and development, fostering an inclusive culture focused on delivering excellent customer service. Build and manage relationships within the University community, recognising the store's vital role in supporting students and the local community.

Assist the Retail Manager in data analysis and reporting, presenting findings to staff and senior management. Adhere to equal opportunities and health and safety policies, promoting a safe and inclusive environment. Undertake other reasonable duties assigned by the line manager in consultation with you.

Duties and Responsibilities

Deputise for the Retail Manager in creating a culture that delivers the best customer experience in the market, aligned with the Morrisons Daily brand, within a University setting. Assist in maintaining high levels of commercial performance, taking ownership of the store and actively working towards targets to improve performance.

Collaborate with the Retail Manager to be innovative and proactive in finding ways to enhance the store's offerings. Support the Retail Manager in all people activities, including recruitment, induction, training, and development, fostering an inclusive culture that empowers everyone to provide excellent customer service.

Build and manage relationships, understanding the store's significance in supporting students and the local community. Assist the Retail Manager in analysing, manipulating, and interpreting data, producing detailed reports, and co-presenting them to staff and senior management. Utilise computerised office systems effectively, creating and revising documents, reports, and communicating changes to colleagues and customers.

Collaborate with the Retail Manager to establish and maintain relationships with contacts in other services, faculties, or external bodies, participating in networks and working groups to coordinate activities and build effective relationships. Take responsibility for your health and safety and that of your colleagues, following the University's health and safety policy. Undertake any other reasonable duties within the scope of the post as allocated by the line manager after consultation with you. Work will involve early starts and late finishes to support the business and includes regular weekend work.

Requirements

Demonstrable experience in an FMCG management role. Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate. Advanced computer skills (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Full UK driving license. Knowledge/Skills/Experience: Proven experience as a retail manager or assistant manager in the Food and Beverage sector, or as a deputy in these roles, with a minimum of 1 year's experience.

Knowledge of retail management best practices. Strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to foster a positive team culture. Strong coaching skills, comfortable providing constructive feedback to ensure consistent ways of working. Understanding of budgets and the ability to set targets for the team.
