Assistant Manager of Ontario Works Permanent Full-Time County Administration Building, Belleville 2026-NON-CHS-305 The Community and Human Services Department has an opening for a permanent full -time Assistant Manager of Ontario Works . This is a non-unionized position reporting to the Manager of Ontario Works. Under the guidance of the Ontario Works Manager, this position ensures exceptional delivery of the day-to-day operations of the Ontario Works Program.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to support the effective and efficient delivery of financial and employment assistance programs and services to social assistance recipients. Collaborate with Community and Human Services programs and community partners to assist in providing effective and efficient service delivery.
Contribute to Ontario Works service planning, organizational development, and operational success as a member of the management team. Provide advice and support to the Ontario Works Manager. Leadership: Provide managerial guidance and support to direct reports. Develop performance goals and plans for staff and provide coaching and performance feedback.
Service Delivery and Communications: Foster the development of teamwork and collaboration within the Ontario Works program, including Integrated Employment Services. Contribute to the development and monitoring of key performance indicators. Contribute to the development and monitoring of client service standards. Ensure the consistent interpretation and application of Ministry program directives, legislation, program and departmental policies, and local procedures to Ontario Works staff.
Provide support and assist in coordinating training initiatives. Assist in resolving client issues as required. Other related duties as assigned. Finance: Provide support in the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of the Ontario Works budget and Service Plan. Provide support for the administration and enhancement of client and third-party payable and receivable solutions.
Health and Safety Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and County policies.
Support the management of departmental records retention pursuant to TOMRMS. Work in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County by-laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three-year College Diploma in Human Services or a related field. Minimum four to five years progressive management experience within a municipal/government or fully developed private agency. Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Works, Children’s Services, and Housing Services Programs. Effective written and oral communication skills.
Solid organizational and time management abilities. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent ability to apply discretion and sound judgement in the areas of problem-solving and decision making. Possess superior interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to supervise/manage within a unionized environment.
HOURS OF WORK: Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours/week). Occasional overtime may be required for project completion.
