Assistant Program Director

• Olathe, KS, Salary Range: $19.00 - $22.00Hourly, About the Role Open Minds Child Development Center is looking for an organized, dependable, and people-first Assistant Director to support two of our centers — Olathe North and The Nest. This role keeps the day-to-day details running smoothly so our teachers can focus on what matters most: the children. You'll juggle everything from classroom supplies to staff files to family communication, all while helping create a center environment rooted in dignity, belonging, and connection.

Key Responsibilities

Order classroom supplies weekly, ensuring each center is fully stocked and ready for learning Maintain organized, up-to-date staff and student files in compliance with confidentiality and regulatory requirements Help set up and facilitate initial training for new staff members Review and update our background check platform (Claris) weekly, including adding new staff Conduct weekly KDHE compliance checks in classrooms and address issues promptly Post weekly Friday news and notes to keep staff and families informed Coordinate with cooks on weekly food orders and menu preparation Step into classrooms as needed to support teachers and keep daily activities running smoothly Serve as a friendly, responsive point of contact for parent questions, feedback, and concerns Assist in building and maintaining emergency preparedness plans (fire drills, severe weather, etc.)

Partner with center directors to identify staff training needs and coordinate development opportunities Participate in quality assurance reviews of classrooms, curriculum, and program activities Maintain accurate incident and accident documentation and required reporting Represent Open Minds at community events and build relationships with local partners Monitor equipment and facility condition, reporting maintenance needs as they come up What You'll Bring CDA, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred Prior experience in a child care setting, ideally in a leadership or administrative capacity Strong organizational and time-management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities Familiarity with KDHE regulations and child care best practices Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite and common educational software platforms Ability to stay calm and composed under pressure A genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Flexibility to adapt as center needs evolve Strong leadership qualities and the ability to motivate a team Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, and kneel as needed Stamina to stand for extended periods and engage in active play with children Visual and auditory ability to supervise children and staff indoors and outdoors Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Open Minds Child Development Center is proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
