Job description
About ZAVTEK ZAVTEK is a growing provider of critical power and data center services. We support customers across industries where reliable power is essential, including data centers, healthcare, manufacturing, and other mission-critical environments. We believe strong customer relationships begin with taking care of our employees.
Our approach is built on technical excellence, accountability, quality workmanship, and a commitment to providing dependable service to our customers. As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Field Services Manager to lead our field service teams and help us scale our operations while maintaining the highest standards of technical quality and customer satisfaction.
About the Role
The Field Services Manager is responsible for overseeing ZAVTEK's field service operations, including teams located in Washington, Oregon, Ohio, and Virginia. This individual will lead field service personnel, oversee daily service operations, develop team capabilities, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with customer expectations.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and experience managing field service technicians in a hands-on technical environment. Experience in critical power, datacenter operations, UPS systems, or battery technologies is highly desirable. Candidates with management experience in adjacent industries, such as electrical contracting, HVAC, generators, industrial equipment, or other electrical and electromechanical service businesses, are encouraged to apply.
This role requires a leader who can balance technical problem-solving with workforce management, operational planning, customer relationships, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service Operations Oversee field service operations and coordinate resources across teams located in Washington, Oregon, Ohio, and Virginia. Manage daily service activities, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, corrective repairs, emergency response, equipment startups, commissioning, and other field service assignments.
Ensure technicians arrive prepared for assigned work, understand the scope of service, and have the information, tools, equipment, and resources necessary to complete jobs correctly the first time. Monitor work order completion, technician productivity, scheduling, travel, and service response times. Ensure service reports, test results, customer documentation, and work orders are accurate, complete, and submitted timely.
Establish and maintain consistent service procedures, performance expectations, and operating standards across all regions. Coordinate with internal departments to ensure effective scheduling, resource allocation, parts availability, and customer communication. Oversee and enforce company safety policies and procedures across all field service operations, PPE requirements, and customer-specific site safety protocols.
Conduct or coordinate safety training, audits, and incident investigations; address safety violations and hazards promptly; and maintain required safety documentation to promote a safe, compliant work environment for all employees. Team Leadership and Development Lead, coach, and develop field service technicians and regional personnel, establishing clear expectations for performance, accountability, professionalism, and quality.
Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention of qualified field service employees. Evaluate technician performance and identify opportunities for additional technical training, mentoring, and professional development. Ensure technicians follow established procedures and demonstrate the technical competence necessary to perform assigned work independently and safely.
Develop a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer service. Conduct regular communication with field teams and maintain visibility into employee performance, workload, and operational challenges. Identify staffing needs and work with leadership to ensure adequate coverage across the nationwide service territory.
Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance Provide technical guidance and support for complex equipment issues, troubleshooting challenges, and customer concerns. Review service documentation and work quality to identify errors, incomplete information, recurring problems, and opportunities for improvement. Establish and maintain standardized methods of procedure (MOPs), scopes of work (SOWs), service checklists, and other technical documentation.
Ensure technicians follow applicable electrical safety requirements, manufacturer recommendations, company procedures, and customer site requirements. Investigate repeat service calls, workmanship concerns, and equipment-related service issues; implement corrective actions to reduce repeat visits and improve first-time completion.
Support the evaluation and implementation of new service processes, equipment, and technical training programs. Serve as an escalation point for technical issues that cannot be resolved at the technician level. Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience managing or supervising field service technicians, technical service teams, or comparable field-based operations.
Technical background in an electrical, mechanical, electronic, electromechanical, or related technical discipline. Ability to understand technical service issues, evaluate troubleshooting approaches, and provide practical guidance to field personnel. Experience coordinating service schedules, employee resources, customer requirements, and competing operational priorities.
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to coach employees, address performance concerns, and hold teams accountable to established standards. Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to review technical documentation, work orders, service reports, and operational performance data.
Proficiency with standard business software and the ability to learn and use service management and work order systems. Ability to travel periodically to company locations, customer sites, and field teams nationwide. Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable customer site access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or other relevant field of study.
