Job Overview

The Pipe Layer installs and connects underground utility pipe systems for storm drainage, sanitary sewer, drains, and water mains on active civil construction jobsites. This role works with heavy equipment operators to maintain proper line, grade, depth, alignment, and trench safety. Additional duties may be assigned as project workflow requires.

What You'll Do

  • Install pipe for storm drainage, sanitary sewer, drains, and water mains.

  • Configure pipe routes and align pipeline sections.

  • Set lasers at the proper grade for each task.

  • Verify pipe is installed at the correct line, grade, and depth.

  • Assist heavy equipment operators in achieving the proper excavation depth.

  • Fit and align pipe correctly to help prevent leaks.

  • Ensure pipe is properly backfilled and chocked.

  • Confirm trenches have required safety equipment in place in accordance with OSHA regulations.

  • Adapt to changes in schedules, project locations, and shift times.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry 50+ pounds.

  • Two or more years of pipe layer experience preferred.

  • Ability to work safely around trenches, underground utilities, and heavy equipment.
