Asst Prof of Composition and Music Theory

The Lebanon Valley College Department of Music invites an accomplished and innovative composer and educator to join its faculty as Assistant Professor of Composition and Music Theory , a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position beginning in August 2027. We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar and creative artist who will inspire undergraduate musicians, foster creative exploration, and contribute to a vibrant and collaborative musical community.

Responsibilities include

teaching 12 credits per semester, primarily undergraduate music theory and individual composition lessons, with additional courses in areas such as aural skills, counterpoint, and orchestration. The successful candidate will also advise students, support student recruitment and retention, and serve on college committees.

Candidates should hold a doctorate in composition, music theory and composition, or a closely related field; ABD candidates will be considered.

Qualifications

include collegiate teaching experience in music theory and composition, functional piano skills, proficiency with music notation and sequencing software, and evidence of a promising career as a composer. Former teaching evaluations and letters of recommendation are accepted but not required. Composition portfolios may be requested at a later date. Please submit all materials through ADP.
