Aqua YMCA Inst - 6450 - Aquatics - VH

POSITION OBJECTIVE This position reports to the Sr. Director of Aquatics. The Lifeguard and Swim Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the aquatic facility while providing high-quality swim instruction to individuals and groups of all ages and skill levels. This dual role requires strong communication, vigilance, and teaching skills to promote water safety and develop swimmers’ abilities in a safe and enjoyable environment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adherence to the YMCA Child Safeguard and Protection Policies and Procedures ensuring a safe environment for children, young people/vulnerable adults; identifying children, young people/vulnerable adults who are suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm; and taking appropriate action to see that such children, young people/vulnerable adults are kept safe at the YMCA.
• Adherence to the YMCA Occupational Health & Safety Policy and accountable to work safely at all times, to identify and report hazards, to take whatever measures necessary and reasonable in the circumstances, to protect and promote health and safety.
• Ensure Y Way and Brand Standards are met and exceeded.
• Serve as a role model to members, volunteers and staff by demonstrating our YMCA values.
• Understand, promote, participate and solicit others to participate in YMCA philanthropic, recognition and awareness events and activities in the organization.
• Follow a Clean Culture and conduct spot and light duty cleaning as needed, complete cleaning (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) checks, and ensure any other cleaning issues are addressed immediately.
• Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Ensure rules and regulations are enforced.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures and ability to initiate them when necessary.
• Conduct pool chemistry tests and report any problems to the Pool Supervisor on duty and/or Maintenance on duty.
• Remain on duty until relieved by a qualified staff.
• Maintain all class records for each child in your classes.
• Presentation of a Swim Level evaluation for all children in your classes. Evaluations must be completed on time, and sent in for approval by a supervisor.
• Ensure opening and closing checklists are completed each day.
• Responsible to ensure that the Pool Admission Standards are met during every swim.
• Responsible to maintain certifications required for this position in a “Current” standing. Recertification cards must be provided prior to expiry date.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A criminal record check and vulnerable record check is required as a condition of employment if 18 years of age or older
• Experience as a Lifeguard
• Able to work flexible hours
• Standard First Aid Level C/CPR
• National Lifeguard certification (NLS)
• YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) or equivalent is an asset
• Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) / Examiner certification is an asset
• Aqua fitness certification is an asset
• Bilingualism is an asset REQUIREMENT This position shall not, for the duration of their employment, maintain any interests directly or indirectly, as an employee, or act in any other capacity, for any other organization that conducts business which may be perceived as similar to, or in competition with, The YMCA of Greater Moncton’s business, without obtaining prior permission from the YMCA Department VP or Director. Due to YMCA privacy and ethical business practices, the employee in this position agree to refrain from contacting YMCA clients and members for business purposes after employment termination.
