  • Conduct a range of supportive, developmental, and preventative psychological interventions to promote student well-being and enhance functioning within a campus environment.
  • Deliver structured, evidence-based interventions (individual and group) appropriate to the scope of a Registered Counsellor, with a focus on early intervention and brief support.
  • Design and implement sub-components of intervention programmes, aligned to institutional priorities, student needs, and integrated campus health strategies.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational workshops, presentations, and campaigns to promote mental health awareness, resilience, and help-seeking behaviour across the campus community.
  • Provide preventative and developmental counselling services across individual, group, and community/system levels, supporting academic success and psychosocial adjustment.
  • Conduct basic psychological screening and risk identification to enable timely referral to appropriate internal or external specialised services.
  • Deliver supportive psychological interventions to enhance emotional regulation, coping skills, and overall mental well-being.
  • Develop and implement preventative interventions and mental health promotion programmes tailored to the student population, including high-risk and vulnerable groups.
  • Provide counselling and support in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., health services, academic support, student affairs) to ensure holistic care.
  • Deliver tele-psychosocial support services to improve accessibility and continuity of care, particularly for off-campus and international students.
  • Work within a flexible service delivery framework, including extended or adaptable hours, to meet the needs of a diverse student population across varying schedules and time zones.
  • Contribute to reducing demand on the broader mental health system through early identification, brief interventions, and effective referral pathways. Policy & Standards Implementation Assist in the development and review of policies, protocols, and guidelines informed by psychological theory, evidence-based practice, and regulatory standards, ensuring relevance to the higher education context. Support the adaptation and implementation of institutional mental health policies and standards to promote accessible, student-centred, and preventative care across campus systems. Participate in the design, coordination, and evaluation of psychologically informed programmes and interventions across diverse campus settings, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and student needs. Contribute to the integration of mental health standards within interdisciplinary campus services, strengthening collaboration across student affairs, health services, and academic support units. Monitor and support compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., HPCSA scope and guidelines), ensuring quality and consistency of services. Support the evaluation and continuous improvement of programmes and policies, incorporating data, student feedback, and emerging best practices. Contribute to strengthening preventative and early intervention frameworks that reduce pressure on specialised mental health services and improve access to care. Support the inclusion of tele-psychosocial services and flexible delivery models within policy and programme standards to enhance accessibility for diverse and international student populations. Referral and Care Coordination Conduct appropriate assessment and screening to identify students requiring higher-level or specialised psychological care. Facilitate timely and ethical referrals to Psychologists and other mental health professionals, in line with scope of practice and HPCSA guidelines. Establish and maintain clear referral pathways and partnerships with internal and external psychologists to ensure continuity and quality of care. Provide case coordination and follow-up support to ensure referred students successfully access services and remain engaged in care. Collaborate with psychologists and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated care planning, particularly for complex or high-risk cases. Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality standards throughout the referral process. Contribute to strengthening a stepped-care model, ensuring efficient use of campus counselling services while reducing pressure on specialised mental health services. Monitoring & Reporting Maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions, interventions, and client outcomes in line with HPCSA and institutional standards. Monitor student engagement, service utilisation, and presenting concerns to identify trends, risks, and emerging mental health needs on campus. Track and report on key service indicators (e.g., number of students supported, types of interventions, referrals made, response times, and case outcomes). Monitor the effectiveness of psychological interventions and programmes, using feedback, outcomes data, and continuous improvement approaches. Document and report on referral pathways and case progression, including linkage to psychologists and other specialised services. Contribute to early warning systems by identifying high-risk cases or trends requiring escalation or institutional response. Prepare regular reports (monthly/quarterly) for management and stakeholders, highlighting performance, gaps, and recommendations for service improvement. Support data-driven decision-making by providing insights to strengthen preventative programming, resource allocation, and service delivery models. Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and ethical reporting standards. Contribute to institutional reporting requirements aligned to mental health strategy, student success outcomes, and system-level indicators.

Requirements

Professional Bachelor’s degree in Psychology Bachelor Honours degree or the equivalent to the BPsych degree that incorporates an approved 6 months or 720-hour face-to-face practicum. Registered with the HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor 5 years of relevant Counselling experience A valid driver’s license essential Professional ethics and conduct Interviewing techniques Closing date: 03 July 2026 Should you not receive a response within 6 weeks of the closing date, please consider your application to be unsuccessful.
