The Mechanical Engineer 3 will independently manage complex engineering projects, develop and evaluate new product concepts, solve technical challenges, and work directly with prototype vehicles and components. This role will also provide technical guidance to junior engineers and R&D personnel while collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, and other departments to successfully bring new products to market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of suspension systems and automotive components for Jeep, truck, and off-road applications. Manage engineering projects from initial concept through design, prototype, testing, validation, and production release. Create and review 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.

Apply advanced engineering principles to evaluate suspension geometry, wheel travel, articulation, steering geometry, load paths, component clearances, vehicle packaging, strength, and durability. Perform engineering calculations and analysis to validate product designs and design decisions. Identify technical risks and develop engineering solutions throughout the product development process.

Work directly with R&D vehicles to install, evaluate, modify, troubleshoot, and test prototype components. Conduct vehicle measurements, fitment evaluations, and technical assessments of new vehicle platforms. Develop and execute product testing and validation plans. Analyze test results and implement design improvements based on engineering data and real-world vehicle performance.

Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, fitment, durability, noise, vibration, and performance concerns. Design and modify prototype components to support rapid product development and testing. Conduct and participate in engineering design reviews. Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and other members of the R&D team.

Collaborate with Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, cost-effective, and suitable for production. Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities. Work with suppliers and vendors regarding materials, manufacturing processes, prototypes, tooling, and component requirements.

Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for product quality, manufacturing, and field concerns. Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, test documentation, engineering changes, and product revisions. Research new vehicle platforms, emerging suspension technologies, competitive products, and industry trends.

Identify opportunities to improve existing Tera. Flex products and engineering processes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience, preferably within the automotive, powersports, off-road, or automotive aftermarket industries. Demonstrated experience designing and developing mechanical products from concept through production.

Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software and mechanical assemblies. Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, dimensional tolerancing, and design documentation. Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, mechanical design, and engineering fundamentals. Experience performing engineering calculations and mechanical design analysis.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex engineering projects and technical problems. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on automotive skills.
