Group Fitness Instructor – HIIT & Group Exercise Location: CBP Leadership Development Center – Harpers Ferry, WV Position Type: Independent Contractor Pay Rate: $40–$65 per class Job Description Millennium Health & Fitness, Inc. is seeking a qualified, energetic, and dependable High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Group Fitness Instructor to deliver professional group exercise classes in support of U.
S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel at the Leadership Development Center in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience designing and leading structured HIIT, functional fitness, and group exercise programs. Instructors must be capable of delivering engaging, challenging, and safe workouts to participants with varying fitness levels, abilities, and experience.
We are seeking fitness professionals who can independently plan, organize, and lead group exercise sessions while maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and participant engagement. Required Resume Information To be considered, applicants must clearly identify the following information on their resume: Current professional fitness certifications, including the full certification name.
Certifying organization for each credential (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ISSA). Certification expiration dates, when applicable. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification information. Specific experience instructing HIIT, group exercise, strength and conditioning, or functional fitness classes. Organizations, fitness facilities, military installations, agencies, or programs where instruction was provided.
Total years of group fitness instructional experience. Types of group fitness classes previously instructed and approximate class sizes. Important: Resumes must clearly identify current certifications, certifying organizations, and relevant instructional experience. Applications missing this information may not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Lead structured, high-energy HIIT and group exercise classes that promote cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, functional movement, and overall physical fitness. Program Development: Independently design and deliver progressive, organized, and engaging workouts appropriate for the assigned class format and participant population.
Technical Instruction: Demonstrate proper exercise techniques, movement patterns, and equipment utilization while providing clear instructions and corrective feedback. Safety & Exercise Modification: Monitor participants and provide appropriate exercise modifications, regressions, and progressions to accommodate varying fitness levels and physical capabilities.
Class Management: Effectively manage group exercise sessions, including participant organization, equipment setup, time management, and maintaining a safe training environment. Participant Engagement: Foster an energetic, motivating, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation, consistency, and individual fitness improvement.
Professionalism & Reliability: Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled classes, maintain professional communication, and comply with applicable facility policies and contractual requirements. Skills & Qualifications Required Qualifications Minimum one year of experience delivering group fitness, exercise, or health and wellness instruction.
Formal education or professional certification in exercise science, fitness, health and wellness, or a related discipline. Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) or Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Demonstrated experience independently leading HIIT, circuit training, strength and conditioning, or functional group fitness sessions. Ability to safely instruct and motivate groups with varying fitness levels, including beginners and experienced participants. Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills.
Ability to successfully complete required security background screening and facility-access procedures. Relevant Instructional Experience Applicants should have experience delivering one or more of the following: High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Functional Fitness and Circuit Training Body Weight Conditioning Strength and Resistance Training Resistance Band Workouts Aerobic Conditioning Body Sculpting Group Exercise and Total Body Conditioning Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of group fitness instructional experience.
Experience instructing medium to large groups. Experience developing structured or progressive group fitness programs. Additional certifications in strength and conditioning, functional fitness, tactical fitness, or performance training. Experience delivering fitness instruction in Federal, military, law enforcement, or public-safety environments.
Ability to teach multiple group exercise formats. Experience using heart-rate monitoring, perceived exertion, and other methods to safely manage exercise intensity. Schedule & Location Classes are conducted at the CBP Leadership Development Center in Harpers Ferry, WV. Typical class time: 4:00–5:00 p.m. Required reporting time: No later than 3:45 p.
m. at the main gate when facility escort is required. Class duration: Approximately 60 minutes. Class sizes: May range from individual participants to groups of up to 75. Scheduling is based on training sessions, program requirements, and instructor availability. Candidates must be able to reliably travel to the facility and consistently fulfill assigned instructional commitments. Applicant Screening Questions All applicants will be asked to answer the following questions during the application process. Professional Certifications: What current professional fitness certifications do you hold? Please identify the full certification name, certifying organization, and expiration date for each. Group Fitness Experience: How many years of experience do you have independently instructing HIIT or group exercise classes? Please identify the organizations or facilities where you have instructed and the typical number of participants in your classes. Instructional Capabilities: Which group exercise formats are you currently qualified and experienced to independently teach (HIIT, circuit training, body weight conditioning, resistance training, functional fitness, aerobics, or other formats)? Please briefly describe your experience. Programming & Safety: How would you structure and modify a 60-minute HIIT class for participants with significantly different fitness levels while maintaining safety, proper technique, and an effective workout? Availability & Facility Access: Classes are generally scheduled from 4:00–5:00 p.m. at the CBP Leadership Development Center in Harpers Ferry, WV, with a potential 3:45 p.m. reporting requirement. Can you consistently meet this schedule and complete the required background screening and facility-access procedures?
