SBU Driver Mechanic

The SBU Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal of parts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections and other components. ​ Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Most advanced work may include fabricating experimental parts and test fixtures and working from blueprints/drawings.

Other responsibilities include driving test vehicles at various speeds on varying road conditions. ​ ​ Weekend overtime is required for this position. ​ Required Qualifications : ​ High school diploma or equivalent Minimum of 1 year of mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems ​ Basic knowledge of mathematics, reading and writing ​ Organizational skills ​ ​ Welding Experience ​ Troubleshooting skills ​ Ability to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment ​ Automotive background ​ ​ Preferred Qualifications : ​ Associate degree ​ Apprenticeship or internship in automotive mechanics ​ Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified ​ Specialty certifications ​ ​
