Technical Advisor - Occupational Hygienist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Advisor – Occupational Hygiene to provide technical leadership and support to Occupational Hygiene activities within a large-scale smelter operation. This role is responsible for proactively identifying, assessing, and managing occupational hygiene risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards.

The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of hygiene strategies, programs, and monitoring systems to support a safe and healthy working environment.

Key responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy Provide technical leadership and guidance to the Occupational Hygiene team and the wider business Lead the development of annual and long-term Occupational Hygiene strategies Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying global best practices and emerging trends Identify capability gaps and support sustainable hygiene performance across the operation Program Development & Compliance Develop and implement the Health & Hygiene Management and Monitoring Plan Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and internal standards Establish and maintain hygiene procedures, standards, and monitoring programs Provide subject matter expertise (SME) on occupational health and hygiene risks Monitoring, Analysis & Reporting Conduct exposure monitoring and trend analysis of occupational hygiene data Identify risk trends and recommend effective mitigation measures Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory requirements Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with leadership, Safety, Medical, and Operational teams Engage with regulators, external stakeholders, and service providers Promote awareness and education on occupational health hazards and controls Team Development Mentor, coach, and develop the national hygiene team Support succession planning and capability-building initiatives Foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment Governance & Continuous Improvement Ensure adherence to hygiene standards and regulatory requirements Continuously improve programs, tools, and procedures Participate in incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented General Requirements Education & Qualifications Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Hygiene, Public Health, or a related discipline Relevant certifications or professional training in Occupational Hygiene are advantageous Must hold a recognized Occupational Hygiene license or professional certification (where applicable) About you Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant occupational hygiene experience Strong experience in heavy industry environments is essential, particularly within: Smelter operations (highly preferred) Mining, processing plants, or other high-risk industrial environments Proven experience managing occupational hygiene programs, exposure monitoring, and risk mitigation strategies Technical Skills Strong knowledge of occupational hygiene standards, regulations, and best practices Experience in data analysis, monitoring programs, and reporting Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and database systems Other Requirements Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) Valid driver’s license Ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment Core Competencies Achieving Results Delivers work effectively against priorities and timelines Uses data and insights to inform sound decision-making Continuously seeks improvements in systems and processes Championing Health & Hygiene Promotes a strong health and hygiene culture Proactively identifies and manages risks Ensures lessons learned are shared and implemented Leadership & People Development Coaches and mentors team members Supports capability building and succession planning Encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing Continuous Improvement & Self-Development Actively pursues professional development opportunities Demonstrates adaptability and self-awareness International SOS greatly appreciates your interest in this role.
