Job description
The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our accounting team. The successful candidate will manage accounting engagements, prepare financial information and work papers, support Canadian tax and compliance requirements, and work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
This position requires someone who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with sound judgment, organization, and a client-service mindset.
Responsibilities
Prepare year-end working paper files for corporate clients. Review general ledger accounts and financial records for accuracy and completeness. Prepare adjusting journal entries and account reconciliations. Prepare and analyze balance sheet and income statement schedules. Assist with preparation of compilation engagements and financial statements.
Identify accounting discrepancies, investigate issues, and recommend appropriate adjustments. Prepare supporting schedules for corporate income tax filings. Assist with GST/HST returns, payroll reconciliations, and other statutory filings. Review bookkeeping completed by junior team members and provide feedback. Assist with corporate tax and personal tax engagements as required.
Maintain complete and well-documented working papers. Communicate with clients to obtain information, clarify transactions, and resolve outstanding matters. Monitor assigned engagements and ensure filing and internal deadlines are met. Assist with CRA correspondence, information requests, and account reconciliations where required.
Perform accounting and tax research as necessary. Support senior accountants and managers with complex engagements. Mentor associates and bookkeepers and provide guidance on accounting procedures. Identify opportunities to improve workflows, controls, documentation, and client service. Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a related field. 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience preferred. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements. Experience preparing working papers and reconciliations. Knowledge of Canadian accounting and tax practices is strongly preferred.
Experience with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel. Experience with CaseWare, Taxprep, Profile, or similar Canadian accounting/tax software is an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to review the work of junior team members. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines. CPA/CA/CMA qualification or progress toward a professional accounting designation is considered an asset.
