AS/400 Developer

Overview

Dataflix is seeking an AS400 Developer with 5+ years of experience to develop, enhance, maintain, and support enterprise applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform. The role involves translating business requirements into reliable technical solutions, completing development and testing activities, resolving application issues, and maintaining clear technical documentation.

The developer will collaborate with business, QA, and technical teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Analyze business requirements, change requests, and existing AS400 programs to define technical solutions and impact. Develop, modify, enhance, and maintain applications using RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, SQLRPGLE, and DB2/400. Write and optimise embedded SQL, queries, stored procedures, and database operations on IBM i.\ Perform coding, debugging, unit testing, integration testing, defect fixing, and implementation support.

Support production applications by investigating job failures, system messages, logs, spool files, and application incidents. Prepare and maintain technical specifications, design documents, test cases, deployment notes, and support documentation. Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, estimation, release activities, and change management processes.

Collaborate with business users, QA teams, and other technical stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve issues.

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on experience in AS400/IBM i application development and support. Strong experience with RPG/400, RPG IV, RPGLE or ILE RPG, including free-format RPG. Hands-on experience with CL/400 or CLLE, SQL/400 or SQLRPGLE, and DB2/400. Experience in application analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, maintenance, and production support.

Working knowledge of IBM i development utilities and tools such as PDM, SEU, SDA, RLU, DFU, or RDi. Understanding of subfiles, display files, printer files, data structures, data areas, batch jobs, and job monitoring. Ability to interpret business requirements and produce clear technical documentation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
