To support their expanding industrial automation project pipeline and elevate their after-sales technical capability in Malaysia, they are seeking an organized, technically sound Project Engineer.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer holds end-to-end technical execution and lifecycle support accountability for assigned industrial machinery and automation integration projects. Bridging customer technical expectations with internal engineering, procurement, site installation, and service teams, this role is responsible for driving project deliveries strictly within contractual timelines, safety standards, and allocated budgets.

Crucially, this role will lead the automation engineering scope and post-commissioning support. Leveraging hands-on experience in automation project support, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the Service Engineering team to transfer technical knowledge and establish structured support protocols for automation systems, expanding the team's capabilities into this specialized domain.

Key Responsibilities

& Activities

1. End-to-End Automation Project Execution & Resource Planning (SAP) Project Ownership: Execute assigned industrial automation and crane integration projects from initial technical handover to final client acceptance under the guidance of the Project Manager, adhering strictly to approved budgets and delivery schedules. Scope & Technical Verification: Review and establish the technical scope of supply alongside sales and automation engineering teams, verifying budget assumptions, PLC/HMI/control specifications, and component lead times prior to project commitment. Resource & Material Management: Determine required mechanical, electrical, and automation components (sensors, drives, PLCs, industrial networks), utilizing SAP ERP systems to reserve and order materials through procurement.
2. Automation Technical Lead, Site Commissioning & Service Knowledge Transfer Client Technical Interface: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients once a project commences, managing technical clarifications, control system schematics, drawing submissions, and design reviews (excluding commercial scope). Testing, Commissioning & Handover: Oversee delivery logistics, physical site installation, Testing & Commissioning (T&C) of automated machinery, and final operational handover to the customer. After-Sales Support & Cross-Team Knowledge Transfer: Lead the post-handover technical support phase for automation projects. Collaborate closely with Service Engineers to train, upskill, and transfer technical domain knowledge on automation troubleshooting, control logic, and diagnostics, enabling the service team to independently maintain complex automation installations.
3. Safety, DOSH Regulatory Compliance & Governance Regulatory Approvals: Collaborate with technical administrative teams to compile and verify engineering design submission documentation for Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) approvals, statutory machinery certifications, and site load testing. Site Safety Oversight: Partner with customer site management and contractor crews to ensure all installation, lifting, control wiring, and T&C activities strictly comply with Malaysian workplace safety regulations and plant safety protocols.
4. Financial Triggering & Scope Variation Control Variation Management: Identify and document scope variations, control logic changes, or site deviations in advance, aligning with the Project Manager and Sales before committing additional work to the client. Milestone Billing & Reporting: Coordinate with Sales and Finance Controllers to trigger project billing milestones in accordance with contractual payment schedules while continuously monitoring project expenditures in SAP.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation, or Industrial Engineering. Experience Level: 4–5 years of active project engineering experience in industrial equipment, automated cranes, material handling systems, or M&E/automation integration environments. Automation & Support Background: Proven hands-on experience in technical support, diagnostics, and troubleshooting for automation systems (PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, sensors, control loops).

Knowledge Transfer Aptitude: Ability and willingness to mentor, coach, and transfer technical knowledge to Service Engineers who are transitioning into supporting automation projects. Regulatory Familiarity: Exposure to site safety protocols, DOSH design submission standards, or site installation procedures for heavy industrial/automated equipment is highly advantageous.

Key Attributes & Software Skills Software Literacy: Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office; hands-on exposure to SAP ERP software is a strong advantage. Coordination Capability: Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to interface effectively between clients, internal procurement, automation specialists, and field service teams.

Mobility: Possession of valid driving license and willingness to travel to client project sites across Malaysia for inspections, site audits, commissioning, and technical support escalations.
