The technology department supports church ministry and Christian education by providing reliable, secure, and effective technology across the campus.
The Role The Technology Director provides leadership for technology strategy and execution across Christ Covenant Church and Covenant Day School while remaining actively engaged in the technical work of the department. This is a hands-on leadership role with primary responsibility for network administration, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and core technology systems.
Reporting to the Director of Church Administration and Covenant Day Business Manager, the role is salaried (exempt) and serves in person on campus throughout the 12-month calendar year as an administrative staff leader. The Technology Director currently leads two additional technology team members and fosters a collaborative, team-oriented approach to serving faculty, staff, ministry leaders, and other campus users.
The Director works closely with school and church leadership, the educational technology leaders, and other departments to ensure technology effectively supports teaching, learning, ministry, and daily operations. The ideal candidate is a servant-minded technical leader who enjoys solving problems, developing people, and working alongside a team.
What Your Day Looks Like In partnership with church and school leadership, evaluate technology needs with organizational priorities and recommend solutions that are secure, sustainable, financially responsible, and aligned with the mission of the church and school. Proactively seek ways to support campus needs and solicit feedback in collaboration with campus leaders to confirm that technology solutions are successfully meeting those needs.
Oversee network administration and infrastructure support, including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, VPN, VLANs, internet connectivity, and related systems. Lead, develop, and support the technology team, establishing priorities, coordinating work, and encouraging shared ownership and collaboration. Maintain the security, reliability, and performance of the organization’s network and core technology infrastructure.
Manage and support servers, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, cloud services, endpoint systems, and other core technology platforms. Provide escalation support for complex hardware, software, network, account, and connectivity issues. Maintain and partner well with third party technology consulting vendor for complex support issues and campus security topics.
Partner with school educational technology leaders to support instructional technology, classroom technology, educational applications, and faculty technology needs. Serve and support church and school staff on escalated technology needs, providing excellent customer service; administer ticketing system, help desk and remote-support tools to manage requests, prioritize work, identify recurring issues, and ensure follow-through.
Lead campus technology projects from planning through implementation, including evaluating solutions, managing vendors, configuring systems, testing, and communicating changes. Oversee technology asset management, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, replacement, and retirement. Establish and maintain effective cybersecurity, backup, access-control, documentation, and technology-support practices.
Coach and mentor team members, encourage cross-training, and build a culture of shared responsibility, open communication, and excellent service and support to technology users across campus; attend leadership meetings appropriate to the role. Respond to significant technology issues or outages and coordinate communication and resolution across the campus.
Evening hours and/or weekend work can occasionally be needed for outages and/or planned updates. Other responsibilities as assigned by your supervisors. What You Need A mature Christian faith and commitment to the mission of Christ Covenant Church and Covenant Day School. Significant IT experience with strong network administration and infrastructure experience.
Strong knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, group policy management, wireless networking, VPNs, firewalls, and network security. Experience with Windows environments, Microsoft 365, Active Directory/Entra ID, endpoint management, and cloud technology. Experience with Google Classroom environment.
A strong collaborative customer service approach desiring to serve and support all campus staff, faculty, and students with technology needs. Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating other technology professionals. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
A collaborative, team-first leadership style with a willingness to work alongside team members and share responsibility for the department’s success. Able to balance competing priorities and provide calm, thoughtful leadership during significant technology issues. Physical ability to move across campus, including under desks and in storage and attic areas for network servicing needs and able to lift up to 40 pounds as needed, What Success Looks Like Success means the church and school experience technology as a reliable partner in their work.
