Our clinic is part of MUSC's Head and Neck Cancer Program and provides specialized care for patients affected by head and neck cancer, trauma, and craniofacial conditions.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Day, M-F No Weekends No Holidays About the Role As a Dental Assistant III, you will work alongside dentists, prosthodontists, residents, faculty, and other members of a highly specialized multidisciplinary team. You'll provide chairside clinical support while developing expertise in the unique care of patients with complex head and neck conditions. This is an opportunity to do more than traditional dental assisting. Our team works with patients who may be recovering from cancer treatment, trauma, or craniofacial conditions and may need assistance restoring their ability to speak, swallow, eat, chew, or feel confident in their appearance. Our patients often continue their relationship with the clinic for many years, allowing you to see the long-term impact of the care you help provide and build meaningful relationships with the people you serve. What Makes This Role Different? You'll have the opportunity to learn and support specialized areas of care, including: Maxillofacial and intraoral prosthetics Oral oncology and head and neck cancer care Implant prosthetics Nasoalveolar molding appliances Specialized patient care following surgery or cancer treatment Assistance with surgical cases in the operating room Clinical and laboratory support for complex prosthetic treatment You will become part of a team helping patients regain important functions and quality of life following some of the most challenging medical experiences.

What You'll Do

Provide chairside dental assistance to dentists, residents, and faculty. Prepare and maintain treatment areas, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Assist with complex dental and maxillofacial procedures and treatment plans. Provide clinical support throughout patient visits and procedures. Assist with specialized prosthetic and laboratory procedures.

Support providers during surgical cases, including procedures performed in the operating room. Obtain and document patient information and assist with diagnostic imaging, including dental radiographs. Maintain accurate patient documentation and follow established clinical and safety standards. Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals and families navigating cancer, trauma, and complex craniofacial conditions.

Support the team in maintaining an efficient, safe, and welcoming clinical environment. Additional Job Description Minimum Requirements High school diploma and completion of an ADA-accredited dental assisting program with 3 years of dental assisting experience, OR High school diploma with 5 years of dental assisting experience.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification. Successful completion of the South Carolina LLR and Board of Dentistry-approved Radiation Safety certification course and examination. Why Join Us? (Continuous) Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker.

20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors.

(Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.

(Continuous) Ability to work rotating shifts. (Frequent) Ability to work overtime as required. (Frequent) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous) (Selected Positions) *Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function.
