Job description

Panama Transfer is seeking dependable, professional, and safety-focused Class A CDL Drivers to join our LTL transportation team. Our drivers play an important role in providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation services to our customers while representing Panama Transfer in a professional manner. This position is primarily responsible for the pickup and delivery of less-than-truckload (LTL) freight within an assigned service area.

Drivers may make multiple pickups and deliveries throughout the day at businesses, warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and other customer locations. Drivers are responsible for safely operating company equipment in a variety of driving environments, including highways, city streets, rural roads, customer yards, loading docks, and other areas where space may be limited.

Drivers must be comfortable backing into loading docks, maneuvering around customer facilities, and safely operating in changing traffic and weather conditions. Before operating equipment, drivers are expected to complete required pre-trip inspections and ensure that the tractor, trailer, and associated equipment are in safe operating condition.

Post-trip and en-route inspections must also be completed as required. Any mechanical problems, defects, damage, or safety concerns must be reported promptly so they can be properly addressed. Because this is an LTL operation, drivers are responsible for more than simply transporting a trailer from one location to another.

Drivers must verify freight, review bills of lading and other shipping documents, ensure freight is loaded and secured properly, and confirm that shipments are being picked up and delivered to the correct locations. Drivers may be required to load, unload, move, and secure freight using pallet jacks and other freight-handling equipment.

Drivers must take reasonable precautions to prevent freight from shifting or becoming damaged during transportation and must report any damaged, missing, overage, or incorrectly loaded freight according to company procedures. Hazardous materials are regularly transported within the LTL industry. Drivers must be able to recognize hazardous materials shipments, review shipping papers, follow proper loading and segregation requirements, and ensure that vehicles are properly placarded when required.

Drivers are expected to follow all applicable DOT, FMCSA, Haz. Mat, and company safety requirements. Accurate paperwork and communication are important parts of this position. Drivers are responsible for maintaining required pickup and delivery documentation, bills of lading, inspection reports, and other records associated with their daily work.

Drivers must communicate effectively with dispatch, terminal personnel, dock employees, customers, and management regarding pickups, deliveries, delays, equipment concerns, freight issues, and other situations that may affect operations. Our drivers interact directly with customers on a regular basis and are an important representation of Panama Transfer.

Drivers are expected to provide professional and courteous customer service, communicate respectfully, and handle customer freight with care. Safety is a priority at Panama Transfer. Drivers are expected to operate equipment responsibly, wear required personal protective equipment, follow company policies and procedures, and immediately report accidents, injuries, property damage, freight damage, unsafe conditions, and other incidents.

Depending on operational needs, drivers may also assist with dock operations, freight movement, trailer loading and unloading, and other duties related to the safe and efficient operation of the terminal. This position requires someone who can work independently, manage multiple stops throughout the day, adapt to changing schedules and customer needs, and make safe decisions without constant supervision.

Dependability, attendance, communication, and a strong commitment to safety are essential. Panama Transfer offers steady, year-round employment with local routes that allow our drivers to return home daily. Our local driving positions are designed to provide drivers with a career in the trucking industry while still allowing them to be home with their families.
