ELKHART COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL POSITION VACANCY NOTICE PART TIME MEDICAL OFFICER DEPARTMENT: Health Department HIRING RATE: Commensurate with experience BENEFITS OFFERED: Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance; Free LTD insurance; Free Health Clinic POSITION TO BE FILLED: January 1, 2027 HOURS & DAYS OF WORK: To be determined LOCATION OF POSITION: Elkhart County TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Within County (please complete driving page on application) JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for serving as the physician for the Department in charge of clinical functions requiring professional medical supervision and personal service of a physician.

Position serves as clinical lab supervisor for the department. The full-time Health Officer, full-time Health Administrator, and part-time Medical Officer work together as a triad leadership team. The Medical Officer position is appointed by the Executive Board of Health for a four-year term with the option of renewal for additional terms.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Unlimited license (MD or DO) to practice medicine in Indiana; Controlled substances licensure preferred
• Must obtain and maintain FEMA certifications
• Working knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and related operations, methods, principals, and safety measures, with ability to effectively evaluate and treat individuals accordingly
• Must be available 24/7 in case of emergencies
• Excellent organizational and communications skills and a sound knowledge of office procedures/practices, along with ability to supervise staff.
• Knowledge of various sources of information, including Indiana Code, peer-reviewed professional journals, and medical/public health textbooks
