Job description

*This position is located at 2732 Transit Road in West Seneca Position Purpose Provide planned flex capacity across load planning and live customer operations. The Operator I is assigned a primary position by the manager based on daily workload and is accountable for the work assigned in that position. This role builds broad brokerage capability and serves as the development path toward independent Logistics Operator II ownership. Core Accountabilities Perform routine load-planning work when assigned, including order entry, data validation, appointment support, and documentation. Support live shipment execution when assigned, including tracking follow-up, routine status updates, document collection, and issue documentation. Maintain clear ownership of assigned tasks and confirm completion or handoff in the TMS and shared workflow. Follow customer SOPs and defined escalation thresholds; ask early when information is unclear. Provide absence, surge, and backlog coverage without allowing work to become ownerless. Develop proficiency across planning, customer communication, exception support, and TMS discipline. Complete assigned cross-training and demonstrate readiness for progressively more independent work. Typical Daily Responsibilities Begin each day with a documented assignment from the manager, such as planning support, operations support, or a defined percentage split. Work the prioritized queue associated with the assignment and communicate capacity constraints early. Complete routine customer and carrier follow-up under established SOPs. Update shipment records, next actions, documents, and exception notes as work occurs. Escalate aging, urgent, customer-sensitive, or unfamiliar situations to an Operator II or manager. Participate in end-of-day handoff and identify incomplete work by owner and next step. Decision Rights and Escalation May resolve routine issues within documented SOPs and communicate standard shipment updates. Escalates exceptions requiring commercial judgment, service recovery commitments, claims decisions, customer policy exceptions, or unfamiliar customer requirements. Daily assignment does not remove accountability. The Operator I remains responsible until completion or an explicit, documented handoff is accepted. Role Boundaries This is not an unassigned helper role. The manager defines the daily workstream, priorities, and ownership. The role should not become the permanent destination for overdue or undesirable work that remains assigned to another employee.

Qualifications

Entry-level logistics experience or one year of customer service, operations, scheduling, order entry, or comparable work preferred. Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, urgency, and willingness to learn multiple functions. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to shift between structured detail work and time-sensitive problem solving.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel; TMS experience is helpful but not required. Measures of Success Accuracy and timeliness of assigned work. Adherence to documented next actions, handoffs, and escalation requirements. Responsiveness to customers and internal partners. Cross-training completion and demonstrated independence across both workstreams.

Reduction in rework and ability to manage increasing complexity over time. M-F 8:30am-5pm
