Senior Python Engineer (APAC)

About the Role

This is a contractor position through X-Team. We are seeking an exceptional Senior Python Engineer to act as the operational "glue" for a major replatforming project. In this role, you will focus heavily on backend processing, data transformation, and scripting to support the seamless migration of core systems. Operating at the intersection of systems and operations, you will design, write, and execute the backend automation that connects legacy infrastructure to a new unified platform.

This contract role requires a high-autonomy engineer who thrives in high-velocity environments and takes end-to-end ownership of backend utilities and operational pipelines. You will build tools that support network engineering and platform provisioning operations while developing robust data transformation pipelines to ensure the seamless integration of acquired customer bases.

You will also embrace AI -native development workflows, using AI coding tools to rapidly build out clean, fault-tolerant internal tooling and migration scripts at scale. Most Important Must be based in APAC (India, Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, or Pakistan) and able to maintain a 4–6 hour minimum overlap with AEST office hours.

5+ years of professional engineering experience with exceptional Python scripting and backend development capabilities. Proven track record of writing robust, complex data migration scripts for massive data transitions between legacy platforms and unified systems. Strong experience building backend tools, utilities, and automation scripts tailored for operations, infrastructure, or network engineering and platform provisioning teams.

Hands-on proficiency leveraging modern AI coding tools to accelerate scripting, backend development, and internal tooling without compromising data integrity or system reliability. High degree of autonomy: able to take complex operational migration tasks and see them all the way through to execution.

Nice to Have

Experience working with large-scale telecommunications, networking, or service provisioning data pipelines. Familiarity with data validation frameworks, ETL optimization techniques, and asynchronous backend processing. Practice setting up automated test suites, structured logging, and error-handling mechanisms for critical background scripts.

You don’t need a step-by-step roadmap to get things done. You’re comfortable navigating complex legacy systems, taking a fuzzy operational need, and building the backend tools to solve it.
