Exercise Specialist

POSITION OBJECTIVE Reporting to the Director of Fitness Centre, this position is responsible for supervision of activities and services occurring in the Fitness Centre and Group Fitness as required. This position will be for both the Downtown and North End facilities. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adherence to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures ensuring a safe environment for children, young people/vulnerable adults; identifying children, young people/vulnerable adults who are suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm; and taking appropriate action to see that such children, young people/vulnerable adults are kept safe at the YMCA.
• Adherence to the YMCA Occupational Health & Safety Policy and accountable to work safely at all times, to identify and report hazards, to take whatever measures necessary and reasonable in the circumstances, to protect and promote health and safety.
• Ensure Serving All Members (SAM) and Brand Standards are met and exceeded.
• Serve as a role model to members, volunteers and staff by demonstrating our YMCA values.
• Understand, promote, participate and solicit others to participate in YMCA philanthropic, recognition and awareness events and activities in the organization.
• Provide fitness centre supervision, acting as a host to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
• Lead fitness programs and orientations to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Seek out Personal Training clients and execute sessions with excellence.
• Lead fitness classes as scheduled / needed on a regular and fill-in basis. Complete training in various types of land-based fitness classes as needed.
• Facilitate recreation sports as necessary per the posted schedule.
• Assist the Director with stat keeping, problem solving, and other tasks.
• Do all regular checks of cleaning, child protection, and more as posted in Google Drive.
• Take a youth-friendly approach and develop positive relationships with youth / teens who frequent the Y, in particular, the North End.
• Get involved with creation and execution of social media, marketing, promotion as needed.
• Perform all tasks related to the Technogym My Wellness system.
• Ensure that all fitness program areas and facility at large are kept to the highest standard of cleanliness. This includes, but may not be limited to, doing regular checks of all areas of responsibility (corners, under/behind equipment), cleaning equipment, vacuuming, filling bottles etc. Collaborate with housekeeping staff.
• Complete and forward work orders in a timely manner when equipment is not in working order. Collaborate with maintenance staff.
• Follow a clean culture and conduct spot and light duty cleaning as needed, complete cleaning (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual) checks, and ensure all other cleaning issues are addressed immediately COMPETENCY PROFILE

QUALIFICATIONS

• Clear vulnerable sector and criminal record check
• Standard First Aid / CPR certification
• Personal Trainer certification from YMCA (or equivalent)
• Health/Fitness related degree or diploma is an asset
• Group Fitness Instructor certification from YMCA (or equivalent) an asset
• Able to work flexible hours
• Bilingualism is an asset
• Must have basic computer skills
• Must be customer service oriented REQUIREMENT This position shall not, for the duration of their employment, maintain any interests directly or indirectly, as an employee, or act in any other capacity, for any other organization that conducts business which may be perceived as similar to, or in competition with, The YMCA of Greater Moncton’s business, without obtaining prior permission from the YMCA Department VP or Director.
