About the Role

The Activities Director plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for guests and residents by designing, organizing, and overseeing a diverse range of engaging recreational and social programs. This position requires a creative and detail-oriented professional who can assess the interests and needs of participants to develop activities that promote social interaction, physical wellness, and mental stimulation.

The Activities Director collaborates closely with staff, vendors, and community resources to ensure programs are well-executed and inclusive. They are responsible for managing budgets, scheduling events, and maintaining accurate records to measure program effectiveness. Ultimately, this role aims to foster a vibrant, welcoming environment that supports the overall mission of the accommodation or food service facility in Millersville, PA.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Hospitality, Social Work, or related field preferred. At least 2 years of experience in activity planning or program coordination within the accommodation, food service, or related hospitality industry. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse populations. Basic proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and scheduling or event management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Activity Director or Therapeutic Recreation (e.g., NCTRC) is highly desirable. Experience working with older adults or special populations in a residential or hospitality setting. Knowledge of health and safety regulations applicable to recreational programming. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets.

Experience in volunteer recruitment and management.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to the interests and abilities of guests or residents. Manage daily operations of the activities program, including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation. Collaborate with other departments to integrate activities with overall service offerings and special events.

Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, program outcomes, and participant feedback to continuously improve offerings. Develop and manage the activities budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high-quality programming. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers or part-time staff involved in activity facilitation.
