Job description

The Shu Chien Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego is inviting applications for Project Scientists (non-tenured; Assistant, Associate or Full level) in Bioengineering. At UC San Diego, Project Scientists are academic researchers who are expected to make significant and creative contributions to a research team.

They are not required to carry out independent research or develop an independent research reputation but will publish and carry out research or creative programs with supervision by a member of the Professor or Professional Research series. Project Scientists may not serve as Principal Investigators but may serve as Co-Principal Investigators with members of the Professor or Research Scientist series.

University and public service are encouraged but not required, and they do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointments are generally for two years, with reappointment reviews to renew. The duration of the appointment will vary depending on the length of the research project and the availability of funding in the Professor's lab that is hiring.

The selected candidate will be a part of a highly collaborative environment with exposure to multiple scientific disciplines and levels of researchers, including students and clinicians.
