Financial Accountant (3–5 years)
Job description
Financial Accountant (Monthly Accounting): 2–5 years' experience Full-time | Employed by Kula Kula builds and runs South African finance teams for international companies: accounting firms, lenders and growing businesses in the UK and Europe. You're employed by Kula in South Africa on a formal SA employment contract, and you work as a dedicated member of one international client's finance team.
The role You'll own the monthly accounting cycle for a portfolio of businesses: accurate books, the month-end close, reconciliations, management accounts and the reporting pack, plus tax and VAT filings. You'll work directly with international colleagues and clients, so clear communication matters as much as technical accuracy.
What you'll do
Run monthly bookkeeping and the month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and supporting schedules Reconcile bank, balance sheet and intercompany accounts Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs Prepare annual financial statements and support the audit, working with auditors and external accountants Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable and the general ledger where the engagement needs it Prepare VAT returns, tax computations and other statutory filings for review and submission Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and cash flow questions Look for ways to automate the finance process and make it more accurate and consistent What we're looking for BCom in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
SAICA, SAIPA or CIMA articles completed or in progress are a plus, not a requirement 2–5 years' accounting experience beyond pure bookkeeping, in practice, outsourced accounting or a monthly-accounting role Hands-on month-end close experience, which is the core of the job Experience preparing management accounts and/or annual financial statements A working knowledge of IFRS or IFRS for SMEs Confidence with at least one of Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, Pastel, Net.
Suite or SAP, and strong Excel skills The ability to manage multiple entities or clients independently and meet deadlines without chasing Clear, proactive communication and strong written English A stable setup at home for remote days, with fibre and backup power What you get Who employs you: Kula Staffing & Consulting is your legal employer.
You sign a South African employment contract, and PAYE and UIF are deducted and paid over in the normal way. You aren't an independent contractor and you don't invoice anyone. Pay: R25,000 – R45,000 per month gross, depending on experience and qualification status. Hours: UK/European business hours, roughly 09:00–17:30 SA time.
No night shifts. If a client engagement ends: your employment with Kula doesn't automatically end with it. We'll look to move you to another engagement. If none is available, the notice terms in your contract apply, and we'll tell you early rather than late. Leave: Statutory SA annual, sick and family responsibility leave, plus SA public holidays.
Support: Equipment, connectivity support and structured onboarding. Growth: Training, professional development and a clear path into senior and reviewer roles. How to apply Upload your CV and answer a few short screening questions. As part of your application, you'll also complete: A solo video interview on Roobiks, about 30 minutes, done in your own time A personality and analytical assessment Completing both strengthens your profile and makes it more likely to be seen by a potential employer.
A person reviews every application, and you'll hear from us either way.
