Finance Manager (5+ years)
Job description
Finance Manager: 3–6 years' experience Full-time | Employed by Kula Kula builds and runs finance teams for growing companies and puts skilled South African professionals into roles where they own the work. You're employed by Kula on a formal SA employment contract, and you work as a dedicated member of one client's team.
About the client Our client is a growing lending business with a fairly manageable book. The lending environment adds some technical complexity. A Finance Manager who is organised, disciplined and takes ownership should get on top of the function quickly. The role You'll own and control the internal finance function, reporting directly to the CEO.
That covers the numbers, the reporting calendar, statutory requirements, controls, audit and compliance. You won't just prepare the accounts: when leadership wants to know what the numbers mean, they'll ask you. Some of the work is currently done by an outsourced accounting firm. The right person will have the chance to bring more of it in-house.
What you'll do
Own the monthly close, management accounts and the accuracy of the reported numbers Produce management and board reporting: the pack, the commentary and the variances that matter Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management Own the annual financial statements and the audit, from preparing schedules to driving it through to completion Manage VAT and PAYE, and work with external accountants on provisional tax and other statutory requirements Perform and oversee bank, balance sheet, intercompany and other key reconciliations Manage impairment testing, with the right accounting treatment and supporting documentation Support NCR compliance from a finance perspective Oversee invoicing, collections and other core finance processes Use the Creditec Loan Management System to monitor disbursements, loan tracking and portfolio information, making sure the finance figures match the loan book Keep legal and transaction documents properly filed, controlled and secure Review the work of external accountants or bookkeepers Tighten controls and processes rather than accept them as they are, and look for ways to automate and professionalise the function Rely less on outsourced support by bringing the right work in-house Give practical financial insight to the CEO and the wider business What we're looking for BCom Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
CA(SA), CIMA, SAIPA or AGA(SA) is a strong advantage 3–6 years of relevant experience, ideally including time in a Finance Manager or senior accounting role Proven ownership of a full month-end and reporting cycle Strong technical accounting and solid IFRS or IFRS for SMEs Experience with VAT, PAYE, statutory compliance and managing an external audit Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow experience Comfort with impairment testing, reconciliations and financial controls Strong Excel skills.
Xero experience is an advantage Lending, funding, debt, private credit, funds or financial services experience is highly beneficial but not essential Commercially minded, organised and self-directed, spotting issues before they become problems Confident with the CEO, auditors and external advisers, and strong in written and spoken English What you get Who employs you: Kula Staffing & Consulting is your legal employer.
You sign a South African employment contract, and PAYE and UIF are deducted and paid over in the normal way. You aren't an independent contractor and you don't invoice anyone. Pay: R35,000 – R80,000 per month gross, depending on experience and capability. The top of the range is for a strong candidate who can take on almost the whole finance function and substantially reduce reliance on outsourced support.
Hours: Standard business hours. No night shifts. Where you work: Johannesburg office, onsite 5 days a week. If a client engagement ends: your employment with Kula doesn't automatically end with it. We'll look to move you to another engagement. If none is available, the notice terms in your contract apply, and we'll tell you early rather than late.
Leave: Statutory SA annual, sick and family responsibility leave, plus SA public holidays. Growth: Real ownership of a finance function reporting to the CEO, exposure to lending and portfolio management, and room to grow as the business scales. How to apply Upload your CV and answer a few short screening questions. As part of your application, you'll also complete: A solo video interview on Roobiks, about 30 minutes, done in your own time A personality and analytical assessment Completing both strengthens your profile and makes it more likely to be seen by a potential employer.
A person reviews every application, and you'll hear from us either way.
