General Laborer

A General Laborer is responsible for safely and efficiently performing general labor duties at a hauling company, transfer station, materials recycling facility (MRF) or landfill.

Key Responsibilities

Site Maintenance & Operations Clean up work areas and perform general office maintenance and repairs, including painting and janitorial work. Perform yard work, such as mowing and paper pick-up. Direct site traffic as necessary. Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance Fuel vehicles and equipment. Clean tracks on track-type and related equipment.

Operate general site vehicles and equipment (e.g., water trucks, pickup trucks, sweepers, mowers, trimming equipment). Safety & Compliance Work in accordance with company, federal, state/provincial, and local safety policies and procedures. Job Requirements & Qualifications: Education & Experience High school diploma or GED desired, but not required.

Key Skills & Abilities Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculations, and communicate effectively with others. Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision. Ability to operate necessary site equipment. Ability to apply common sense reasoning to solve everyday problems. Safety Criteria Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.

Physical Demands & Environmental Factors: Physical Requirements Stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, climb, balance, crawl, kneel, and use hands/fingers in an outdoor environment (90% to 100% of the time). Manually lift or move up to 65 pounds regularly. Manually push or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Visual capabilities: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Working Conditions Continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions (hot/cold, rain, humidity). Work around loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, traffic, toxic/caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles. Occasional work in high, precarious places.
