Job description
The Laser Operator is responsible for operating laser cutting equipment, sorting and identifying fabricated metal components, and moving raw materials and finished parts throughout the manufacturing facility. This position supports the production of HVAC components and assemblies by ensuring parts are cut accurately, properly identified, organized, and delivered to the next stage of production.
The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining quality and production standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Laser Operation Operate laser cutting equipment to process sheet metal and other approved materials according to production schedules and work instructions. Load raw materials and unload cut parts safely and efficiently. Verify material type, thickness, dimensions, and job specifications before processing. Monitor machine operation and cutting quality to ensure parts meet specifications.
Perform basic machine setup, routine cleaning, and operator-level preventive maintenance as trained. Identify machine malfunctions, cutting defects, or abnormal operating conditions and report them to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel. Follow approved procedures for machine operation, guarding, and safe material loading and unloading.
Part Sorting and Quality Inspection Sort cut parts according to job number, part number, size, type, and production requirements. Verify quantities and identify parts using drawings, labels, travelers, or other production documentation. Inspect parts for visible defects, incorrect cuts, burrs, damage, or other quality concerns.
Separate nonconforming parts and report quality issues promptly. Label, bundle, stack, and organize finished parts to prevent damage, mix-ups, or loss. Ensure parts are properly prepared and staged for downstream operations, including forming, bending, welding, assembly, or other manufacturing processes. Maintain accurate part counts and complete required production and quality records.
Material Handling Receive, stage, move, and distribute raw materials, work-in-process components, and finished products throughout the facility. Supply laser cutting and other production workstations with the required materials and components. Use forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, or other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
Verify material identification and quantities against production paperwork and material requests. Store materials and finished parts in designated locations to maintain organization and traceability. Assist with loading and unloading deliveries as assigned. Maintain clear aisles, organized work areas, and safe material storage practices.
