Temporary General Laborer/Shop Helper Location: Billerica, MA 01821 Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Position Overview We are seeking a dependable Temporary General Laborer/Shop Helper to support our CNC machining operations. This role is essential in maintaining an organized and efficient shop floor, handling raw materials, processing finished parts, and ensuring compliance with facility safety standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate reliable attendance and a strong work ethic to help our team achieve key production milestones throughout the contract period.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the handling, loading, and unloading of raw materials. Process and prepare finished parts for shipping or further operations. Support CNC machining operations by providing general labor assistance as needed. Ensure compliance with all facility safety policies and procedures. Report any safety hazards or operational issues to supervisors promptly.
Contribute to meeting production goals by maintaining consistent and reliable attendance. Safely clean out metal shavings (chips) from CNC enclosures, empty coolant bins, and sweep designation paths Safely load and unload raw materials, transport work-in-progress inventory across departments, and assist with basic manual saw operations.
Qualifications
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to follow detailed safety protocols, read manufacturing routers, and understand technical work instructions. Must be a U.S. Citizen due to the nature of the work, compliance with federal contracts, and exposure to ITAR/EAR-regulated technical data. Exceptional attendance history and the ability to consistently work 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with the willingness to work additional hours based on business needs.
Ability to stand for the entire 8-hour shift and frequently lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Must own and wear safety-toed work boots. Safety glasses and hearing protection will be provided. Must be able to pass a standard pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen. No prior CNC experience required; hands-on training will be provided on the job.
Prior experience in a warehouse, construction, or manufacturing environment is a plus. Work Enviornment The job operates in a manufacturing atmosphere. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those any employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to: Vibration, or works near moving mechanical parts and high, precarious and congested places Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock Work on or near moving mechanical parts Exposed to prolonged risk of loud to moderate noise throughout the day.
