Maintenance Technician

Legacy is seeking a Maintenance Technician for a 248-unit cooperative property in Lansing, Michigan. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the property’s buildings and residential units, completing work orders, performing unit turnovers, and handling a variety of repairs, including plumbing, painting, and general maintenance.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with grounds maintenance, trash removal, and snow clearing using both mechanical equipment and manual methods. This position requires flexibility to work different shifts, including on-call rotations, emergencies, weekends, holidays, and extended hours outdoors in various weather conditions.

Success in this role depends on teamwork, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with staff across departments to ensure safe, well-maintained homes and smooth property operations.

Requirements

High School Diploma, GED, or some college credits from a technical school; or one or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Proficiency in plumbing, electrical, structural, and appliance repair Experience with unit turns, drywall repairs, and painting are essential Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and independently Customer Service attitude in all interactions with staff and residents Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform tasks as requested May be required to lift up to 50 pounds Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required HVAC Certification is a plus Ability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings (on call) required An Equal Opportunity Employer , our employees are our most valuable asset and Legacy is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity and inclusion.
