Job Summary
The Systems Specialist supports the District’s information technology environment to help ensure reliable, secure, and effective technology services for members and District partners. This position provides technical expertise and responsive customer support while contributing to the availability and effective operation of the District’s technology systems and resources.
This position participates in an on-call rotation to support the District’s 24/7 operations. Duties/Responsibilities: Provides Tier 1 and 2 helpdesk support for hardware, software, telecommunication systems, internet, intranet, and network/LAN problems; troubleshoots and resolves service requests or escalates issues as appropriate and updates tickets accordingly.
Monitors and maintains comprehensive back-up protocol of all electronic data. Reviews, analyzes, modifies, installs, and debugs operating and application systems. Performs primary imaging and PC replacement function for the Fire District. Monitors IT infrastructure and application components for proper operation within established performance, function, and availability expectations.
Assists with monitoring and maintaining virtualization technology, hypervisors, and virtual machines. Performs troubleshooting to include hardware, software, security malware, and virus issues. Consults with employees to ensure efficient use of computer-related software. Assists in establishing and maintaining user accounts, files, and rights.
Works with vendors for software support and problem resolution. Develops, updates, and maintains clear documentation of IT processes and functions. Performs other duties as assigned. Problem Solving and Judgment – Ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, evaluate alternatives, and determine appropriate solutions. Exercises sound judgment, critical thinking, and initiative when addressing technical challenges and minimizing operational disruption.
Technical Communication and Customer Service – Ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally to individuals with varying levels of technical knowledge. Demonstrates responsiveness, patience, and a service-oriented approach while building positive working relationships with others. Adaptability and Continuous Learning – Ability to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and organizational needs.
Demonstrates initiative in developing knowledge and skills, remains receptive to feedback, and applies learning to improve performance. Accountability and Reliability – Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, take ownership of responsibilities, and follow through on commitments. Demonstrates dependability, initiative, and accountability while consistently meeting established expectations and maintaining quality and professional standards.
Confidentiality and Information Security – Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when accessing, handling, or safeguarding confidential and sensitive information. Demonstrates integrity and an understanding of the responsibility associated with access to District information and technology resources. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent and four (4) years of related experience.
OR Associate's degree in information technology or related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and two (2) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Experience with Microsoft Enterprise Domain Structure, and O365 including Teams. Experience with Cisco routers and VoIP. Experience with Power. Shell or other scripting languages.
Experience with PC imaging. Experience working with Public Safety networks and/or applications environment. Preferred Licenses and Certifications: CompTIA A+ certification.
