FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Minimum Qualifications: Age: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Background Cleared: Must pass a fingerprint-based federal and state criminal background check pursuant to Section 22-10A-5 NMSA 1978 prior to employment. Per 6.41.4.9(P) NMAC, an applicant does not qualify if the applicant has been convicted of any felony within the previous ten (10) years; has any conviction for a violation of the Controlled Substances Act; has been convicted of child abuse pursuant to Sections 30-6-1 through 30-6-4 NMSA 1978; or has been convicted of any other criminal offense in which a child was a victim.

Physical Examination: Must pass a physical examination before performing any duties; the Transportation Director or NMPED may require a new physical examination at any time (6.41.4.9(P) NMAC). Drug and Alcohol Testing: Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with district policy.

Shall not use alcoholic beverages, illegal substances, or legal substances that would impair the ability to perform required duties prior to or during work periods (6.41.4.9(A)(12) NMAC). Pre-Service Training: Must complete the mandatory New Mexico school bus assistant pre-service training, documented on the NMPED School Bus Assistant Pre-Service Training Record in accordance with the School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) manual, before performing assigned duties.

First Aid and CPR: Must hold a current first aid and CPR certificate. Online first aid and CPR courses are not acceptable (6.41.4.9(P) NMAC). Physical Ability: Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds and to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, and walk without limitation, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Communication and Professionalism: Must be able to communicate effectively and maintain professionalism with supervisors, staff, students, parents/guardians, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Experience: Experience working with school-age children, including students with disabilities or special health needs, in an educational, childcare, or student transportation setting. Language and Communication: Fluency in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
