About the Role
The Greens and Grounds Person plays a vital role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functional quality of outdoor spaces, particularly in parks, golf courses, and recreational areas. This position is responsible for ensuring that all greens, fairways, and surrounding grounds are kept in pristine condition through regular maintenance and care.
The role requires a strong understanding of turf management, plant care, and landscape maintenance to promote healthy growth and an inviting environment. The successful candidate will work closely with a team to implement seasonal care plans, manage irrigation systems, and address any issues related to pests or diseases.
Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall experience of visitors by preserving the beauty and usability of outdoor spaces year-round.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or turf management, preferably in a similar outdoor environment. Ability to operate landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment safely. Basic knowledge of plant care, turf maintenance, and irrigation systems. Physical ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in turf management, horticulture, or a related field. Experience working on golf course greens or large-scale recreational grounds. Familiarity with integrated pest management and environmentally sustainable landscaping practices. Ability to identify common turf diseases and pests and apply appropriate treatments.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate utility vehicles.
Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, edging, and aerating greens and surrounding grounds to ensure optimal turf health and appearance. Operate and maintain landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and irrigation systems safely and efficiently. Monitor turf conditions and soil health, applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as needed in accordance with safety guidelines and environmental regulations.
Assist in planting, watering, and caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation to enhance the landscape. Collaborate with the groundskeeping team to identify and resolve issues related to drainage, pest infestations, or turf diseases. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the grounds maintenance area and equipment storage.
Follow all safety protocols and environmental standards to ensure a safe working environment for self and others. Skills: The required skills enable the Greens and Grounds Person to perform daily maintenance tasks efficiently and safely, ensuring the health and appearance of turf and plant life. Proficiency in operating landscaping equipment allows for effective mowing, trimming, and irrigation management, which are essential for maintaining high-quality grounds.
Knowledge of plant biology and turf management supports the identification and treatment of diseases and pests, promoting sustainable landscape health.
