Laboratory General Supervisor

About the Position: The Laboratory General Supervisor provides leadership and direction for the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow, strict adherence to regulatory standards, and the consistent delivery of accurate and high-quality testing services. This role encompasses the direct supervision of Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) staff, including the review of timekeeping records, the development of staff schedules, the enforcement of laboratory protocols, and the regular administration of competency assessments for all laboratory personnel.

The General Supervisor is also critical in upholding compliance with hospital policies, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory guidelines. Furthermore, this position involves close collaboration with the Technical Specialist on process optimization and departmental enhancements, the oversight of new employee orientation and training programs, effective interdepartmental collaboration as required, and representation of the laboratory in meetings or on committees as assigned.

Capacity to supervise staff, prioritize workloads, and manage multiple responsibilities. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment in decision-making. Understanding of and commitment to maintaining compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.

Collaborative approach to working with staff, providers, and other departments.

Education and Experience

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field. At least 3-5 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory. In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, quality control, and regulatory standards. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Certifications and Licensure: Certification from a recognized accrediting body (e.g., ASCP, AMT) preferred.
