We are seeking adaptable, highly clinical, and compassionate Substitute School Nurses (RNs and LPNs) to support our elementary, middle, and high school health offices on an as-needed daily basis. In this vital role, you will step into school clinics to provide acute triage, administer routine medications, implement specialized student health plans, and respond to campus emergencies.

Salary & Compensation Registered Nurse (RN) Rate: $110.00 per day (Flat Daily Rate). Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Rate: $17.

Role Summary
The Substitute School Nurse provides temporary professional nursing care, health assessments, and emergency medical triage in the absence of full-time campus health personnel. Reporting to the Building Principal and the Lead District Nurse, this position manages daily clinic operations, administers prescribed medications, maintains health documentation, and ensures strict compliance with state nursing standards and district medical policies.
Why You'll Succeed (Qualifications) Licensed Professional (Required): Must hold and maintain a current, unencumbered Missouri RN or LPN License issued by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Safety Certified: Valid CPR / AED for Healthcare Providers Certification required. Pediatric & Triage Skilled: Clinical experience in pediatric care, emergency triage, school nursing, or public health settings is highly preferred.
Clinical Assessment Expert: Strong expertise in health assessments, acute illness identification, diabetes management, asthma care, and allergic reaction protocols. Compassionate & Communicative: Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a calm, reassuring clinic atmosphere for children and communicate clearly with parents, staff, and medical personnel.
Your Impact (Key Duties) Direct Clinical Care: Assess and treat student illnesses, injuries, and health emergencies occurring during the school day, applying first aid and emergency response protocols. Medication Administration: Safely administer oral, inhaled, and emergency medications (e.g., Epi. Pens, insulin, rescue inhalers) strictly following physician orders and district health policies.
Chronic Condition Support: Execute specialized health management plans for students with diabetes, seizure disorders, severe allergies, or other chronic medical conditions. Clinic Management & Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential student health records, clinic visit logs, and medication tracking forms using district health software (in compliance with FERPA/HIPAA).
Communicable Disease Monitoring: Identify and isolate potential communicable symptoms, communicating proactively with building leadership and families regarding student illness policies. Your Leadership Partners Primary Support: District Lead Nurse, School Counselors, & Office Managers Administrative Evaluator: Building Principal & Director of Health Services The Logistics of Your Success Classification: Per-Diem / Temporary Health Services Staff.
Work Setting: Structured school health clinic and office environment within elementary, middle, or high school campuses. Physical Readiness: Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies anywhere on campus, stand/walk for extended periods, bend/stoop to evaluate children, and occasionally lift or assist students up to 40 lbs.
