Tax Senior Manager (recruiting from Malta only)

Our Client, one of Malta’s leading professional services groups, is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Manager – Tax to lead its Tax Team and contribute to the continued growth and development of its tax practice. The successful candidate will oversee tax advisory and compliance services, manage key client relationships and provide strategic leadership to the team.

The role combines technical tax expertise with people management, departmental planning and business development, offering an opportunity to contribute directly to the organisation’s commercial performance and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Maltese corporate and personal tax advisory engagements, including reviewing tax opinions and advising on transactions, reorganisations and corporate and private client structures. Oversee tax compliance activities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery, maintaining high professional standards and providing technical guidance on complex matters.

Manage key client relationships, advise on cross-border tax matters and coordinate with international tax advisers, the Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) and other relevant stakeholders. Lead, mentor and develop team members, overseeing workload allocation, performance, resource planning and the continuous improvement of departmental processes.

Drive business development initiatives by identifying new opportunities, preparing fee proposals, strengthening referral relationships and promoting collaboration across the Group’s service lines. Contribute to departmental strategy and commercial performance through budgeting, forecasting, pricing, profitability monitoring and keeping abreast of relevant tax developments and regulatory changes.

Requirements

Minimum of five years’ relevant tax experience within a corporate services firm, accountancy practice or a comparable professional services environment, including managerial or supervisory responsibilities. Strong knowledge of Maltese corporate taxation, with proven experience in tax advisory, compliance and the management of complex client engagements.

Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with the ability to delegate effectively, review work, provide technical guidance and develop team capabilities. Excellent client relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and work effectively with clients, colleagues and external advisers.

Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, allocate resources effectively and meet demanding deadlines. Commercially minded and proactive, with a strong sense of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality, and the ability to contribute to business development and the growth of the tax practice.

Licenses & Qualifications A recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACCA or ACA, or qualification as a warranted lawyer with relevant taxation experience. An MIT Diploma, ADIT or another recognised specialist tax qualification would be considered an asset. Practical exposure to international tax structures, cross-border transactions, trust and foundation taxation, and CRS/FATCA requirements would be considered an advantage.
