Job description
Disability Student Support and Case Management
- Provide professional psychosocial support and counselling services to students with disabilities, including crisis intervention where required.
- Assess and support students with disabilities referred through the case management process, ensuring cases are attended to within stipulated timeframes
- Implement and review Individual Support Plans for identified students with disabilities
- Design and implement interventions for students with disabilities who are at risk of dropping out
- Maintain accurate case records and case notes in line with HIGHER HEALTH SOPs and confidentiality requirements Disability Screening, Assessment and Referrals
- Conduct disability screenings to identify barriers to learning and facilitate access to appropriate support services
- Refer identified students to relevant internal and external support services and follow up on referral outcomes
- Coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary case meetings with the Disability Officer/Occupational Therapist and other relevant professionals
- Monitor and report on referral turnaround times and case conclusion rates Inclusive Education and Reasonable Accommodation Advocacy
- Facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring of reasonable accommodation plans for students with disabilities
- Support students with disabilities to access assistive devices and related support services
- Work with institutional staff to embed inclusive learning practices and reduce disability-related barriers
- Monitor compliance with disability inclusion policies and guidelines at campus level
- Plan and conduct disability awareness campaigns and anti-discrimination initiatives within the college
- Train staff and students on disability inclusion, awareness and reasonable accommodation principles
- Implement advocacy initiatives that promote the rights of students with disabilities
- Monitor and respond to complaints related to disability-based discrimination and exclusion Stakeholder and Community Engagement
- Establish and maintain partnerships with disability service organisations and other relevant stakeholders
- Coordinate and attend stakeholder engagement meetings relevant to disability support, including with the Campus Care Worker Coordinator and Disability Unit
- Refer students to community-based support services and coordinate collaborative projects with partners
- Monitor and report on stakeholder satisfaction and partnership outcomes Student Retention, Success and Employability
- Support the retention, progression and completion of students with disabilities through targeted psychosocial and case management interventions
- Assist students with disabilities to access Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities & skills development opportunities
- Support students with disabilities in accessing employment opportunities and transition-to-work initiatives
- Monitor and report on retention, throughput and graduation outcomes for supported students Policy Implementation and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with DHET and HIGHER HEALTH disability inclusion policies and guidelines
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date disability-related records in line with policy and compliance requirements
- Support policy review processes and submit policy implementation reports as required
- Support internal and external compliance audits relating to disability support services Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
- Monitor the performance of disability support interventions at campus level and report findings to the Disability Manager
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of students with disabilities
- Compile and submit monthly, quarterly and annual narrative reports based on disability support programme performance
- Use monitoring findings to inform continuous improvement of disability support interventions Requirements Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in social work (essential)
- Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker (essential)
- Driver’s License (essential) Experience
- Experience providing psychosocial support, counselling and case management services, preferably to persons or students with disabilities.
- Experience conducting disability screening, assessment and referral processes.
- Knowledge of reasonable accommodation principles and inclusive education practices.
- Experience and knowledge of the Higher Education, TVET and CET sector (Added Advantage)
- Experience in stakeholder management, advocacy and community engagement.
- Knowledge of relevant disability legislation and DHET disability inclusion policy frameworks.
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office Package)
- Report writing and data management experience.
