Assistant Teaching Professor of Chemistry
Job description
The Connecticut College Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of assistant teaching professor for the academic year 2027-2028. The successful candidate will teach lab sections for general and organic chemistry. Some lab sections are taught in the evening. Other responsibilities include lab set-up and possible shared responsibilities for overseeing department chemicals, supplies, and instrumentation.
The teaching load for an assistant teaching professor is 3/3, with no expectation of research. Teaching professors are voting members of the faculty and vital contributors to their departments. Assistant teaching professor appointments begin with a two-year period; upon successful review, they are reappointed for a four-year period.
On successful review during the sixth year, the assistant teaching professor is reappointed for a six-year period and may be promoted to the rank of associate teaching professor. Teaching professors are eligible to apply for College funding to support professional development. The Chemistry Department is approved by the ACS and offers majors in chemistry and biochemistry.
In teaching professors, the College seeks outstanding teachers who are committed to student learning and will effectively engage students in both group and one-on-one instruction. MS degree or higher in chemistry is required. Post-secondary teaching experience is required. Connecticut College is a private, highly selective institution with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding faculty teaching and research.
The College seeks creative scholars excited about working in a liberal arts setting, with its strong focus on engaged teaching, participation in shared governance, and active involvement in an institution-wide advancement of access and opportunity for all students, faculty, and staff. Connecticut College is an equal opportunity employer.
