Senior Accountant

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is an established accounting practice offering accounting, taxation and financial services to a range of business clients in the Durban area. The Senior Accountant will manage the practice’s day-to-day accounting and statutory work, take responsibility for more complex reconciliations, and supervise and sign off the work of the Junior Accountant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Capturing and processing financial transactions Preparing and submitting VAT and PAYE returns Performing bank reconciliations and general bookkeeping Assisting with monthly accounting functions Reviewing and reconciling complex balance sheet accounts Managing fixed asset registers Reconciling inter company transactions Supervising, reviewing and signing off work completed by the Junior Accountant Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Grade 12 / Matric Qualification in Accounting or a related field Proven accounting experience (min 3 years) Proven experience on Pastel / Sage (essential) Knowledge of VAT and PAYE calculations and submissions Sound understanding of accounting principles Knowledge of debtors and creditors processes (advantageous) REQUIRED COMPETENCIES Strong attention to detail and accuracy Able to work independently and meet deadlines Good communication and organisational skills
