Highway Engineering Intern

Position Summary

JMT’s hands-on Internship Program provides opportunity to work first-hand on real projects with experienced staff in our Tyler, Texas office. Responsible for various tasks and projects to enhance their experience in the field utilizing their education. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions

and Responsibilities Assist engineers and project managers with basic highway design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support Help prepare drawings and documents for schematic design, final design, and construction phases using Open. Roads Designer or Micro. Station CAD software Assist with preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices Develop basic highway design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience Participate in team meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders Participate in weekly seminars and end-of-internship presentation through the JMT Internship Program Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned
