What we are looking for

The SAP FICO ECC Functional Consultant is responsible for the design, configuration, and delivery of Finance and Controlling solutions within SAP ECC environments. This role focuses on enabling accurate financial management, strong governance, and real-time visibility by aligning business processes with SAP best-practice functionality.

Operating within transformation and optimisation programs, the consultant will work closely with finance stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and efficient financial processes. The role requires both strong functional capability and the ability to engage the business to drive meaningful outcomes—not just system configuration.

Responsibilities

1. Solution Design & Functional Delivery

• Lead the design and configuration of SAP FICO modules within ECC, aligned to business requirements.
• Configure and support: o Financial Accounting (FI): § General Ledger (GL) § Accounts Payable (AP) § Accounts Receivable (AR) § Asset Accounting (AA) § Bank Accounting and Cash Management o Controlling (CO): § Cost Centre Accounting (CCA) § Internal Orders § Profit Centre Accounting (PCA) § Product Costing (where applicable)
• Ensure solutions leverage standard SAP functionality wherever possible, clearly identifying any required enhancements.

1. Process Optimisation & Business Alignment

• Engage with finance stakeholders to understand: o Current financial processes and pain points o Reporting and compliance requirements
• Design and optimise processes across: o Procure-to-Pay (P2P) o Order-to-Cash (O2C) o Record-to-Report (R2R)
• Drive structured process improvements to enhance efficiency, control, and visibility.

1. Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with: o MM for procurement and invoice verification o SD for billing, revenue recognition, and AR integration o PM/PP for cost tracking and settlement
• Ensure accurate financial postings across all integrated business processes.
• Support integration design with external systems and interfaces.

1. Financial Data & Reporting Enablement

• Ensure data structures support: o Accurate financial reporting o Regulatory and statutory compliance o Management reporting and analytics
• Support development and validation of: o Financial reports o Reconciliation processes
• Work with reporting tools (e.g. SAP reports, external BI tools where applicable).

1. Testing, Deployment & Support

• Lead and support: o Functional Unit Testing (FUT) o System Integration Testing (SIT) o User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
• Prepare functional specifications for enhancements (e.g. ABAP developments).
• Support cutover activities, including financial data readiness and balances validation.
• Provide post-go-live support and continuous improvement initiatives.

1. Governance, Compliance & Controls

• Ensure solutions align with: o Financial governance frameworks o Audit and compliance requirements
• Support implementation of: o Internal controls o Segregation of Duties (SoD)
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and processes.

1. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Develop and maintain: o Functional specifications o Configuration documentation o Process maps o Training materials
• Support end-user training and adoption activities.

1. Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a trusted advisor to finance stakeholders.
• Translate business requirements into clear functional solutions.
• Communicate effectively across business and technical teams. Qualification and Experience:
• Education: o Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: o 5+ years of hands-on experience in SAP FICO (ECC). o Strong configuration experience across FI and CO modules. o Proven experience in end-to-end SAP implementations or major enhancements. o Deep understanding of financial processes and accounting principles.
• Skills: o Deep understanding of Finance operations in industries such as: § Manufacturing § Utilities § Mining / Asset-intensive environments o Ability to align business processes with SAP best practices. o Experience in process mapping and optimisation.
• Certifications: o SAP ECC FICO certification is a plus.
