Middle School Girls Basketball Coach

H.W. Porter School in Columbia is seeking a Middle School Girls Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Coach, Middle School QUALIFICATIONS: ? Demonstrated ability to organize student activities ? Demonstrated knowledge and interest in the sport ? Demonstrated interpersonal skills ? Must hold current CT Coaching Certificate CPR/AED/ First Aid Certificate ?

At least a high school diploma and 18 years of age REPORTS TO: Athletic Coordinator JOB GOAL: The coach supervises try-outs, practices and games and adheres to appropriate recommendations of the Connecticut Middle Level School Interscholastic Athletic Board of Control (Connecticut Association of Schools).

RESPONSIBILITIES

OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COACH PROVIDE AN APPROPRIATEATHLETIC PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS BY, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Providing an appropriate athletic program for middle school students.
2. Attending meetings regarding schedules and planning as directed by the athletic coordinator.
3. Organizing and supervising try-outs if determined they are necessary.
4. Submitting a roster of potential players to the athletic coordinator and school nurse to ensure that mandated physicals are up-to-date.
5. Conducting a parent meeting at the beginning of the season.
6. Facilitating and Participating in the REMIND app with the parents and Athletic Coordinator(s).
7. Distributing an updated Horace W. Porter School Sports Handbook and other information from the athletic coordinator to all players. It is also the coach's responsibility to enforce guidelines that are set forth in these publications
8. Submitting requests for materials and first aid supplies that will be needed for the season.
9. Collaborating with the athletic coordinator to establish a practice schedule.
10. Planning, preparing, and organizing productive practices, games, strategies, and line ups.
11. Keeping the athletic coordinator and assistant principal informed of the progress of the team and any unusual incidents that occur during practices and games.
12. Supervising students from the time that practices/games begin until students are met by a parent, guardian, or other designated adult.
13. Advising the athletic coordinator and office about bus schedules, especially those that relate to canceled or rescheduled games.
14. Participating in professional development opportunities, at your own expense, in order to maintain certification
15. Attending and Facilitating at the Sport Awards Ceremony by choosing award winners, presenting the awards, and speaking to the families about the team's season. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Annual appointment in accordance with the budget. The appointment is per season. Rate of pay is $3,121 for the season. EVALUATION: Annually evaluation by the Athletic Coordinator
