Technology & Product Lead – OWNDAYS

OWNDAYS is a leading eyewear company founded in Tokyo in 1989, with 500+ stores across 13 countries. OWNDAYS is now part of one of the world's largest vertically integrated eyewear platforms, giving this role direct access to the group's product, engineering scale, data and AI capability across India and international markets.

The Opportunity

This is a builder-leader's role, not a caretaker role. You will own the full engineering and product agenda for OWNDAYS – what gets built, why, and how – while staying close enough to the work to make real architectural and product calls. You will be the single accountable technical and product owner for OWNDAYS' retail and e-commerce platform across Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the wider East/SE Asia region, as part of a group Productech org of ~400 engineers across Japan, India, Thailand and Singapore.

What You'll Do

• Own technology & product strategy: set and execute the roadmap tied to revenue, customer experience and store/e-commerce efficiency; make the speed, scale and quality trade-offs.
• Build, personally: contribute to architecture, write production code where it matters most, and be the final escalation point for the highest-impact production issues.
• Build shared group platforms: with Lenskart, identify capabilities (attribution, data platform, identity, commerce, agents) to build once; design APIs, event-driven architectures and data models for multi-entity, multi-country, multi-currency operation; migrate legacy OWNDAYS systems onto a cloud-native foundation without disrupting the business.
• Lead, hire and develop: hire and grow leads and ICs, build habits (design docs, postmortems, eval discipline, product discovery), own performance and succession.
• Partner across the business: be the technical and product counterpart to OWNDAYS leadership, country leaders and functional heads.

Who We're Looking For

• 10+ years of engineering experience, mostly in product companies, building systems that carry real production traffic and revenue.
• Has led both "build it" and "decide what to build" – with specific architectural and roadmap decisions to talk about.
• Has managed engineering organisations – hired managers, built org structure, developed leaders.
• Hands-on experience building AI/ML systems in production (agentic pipelines, RAG, evals, applied ML).
• Deep experience with distributed systems and enterprise integrations at non-trivial scale.
• Strong backend fundamentals (Java/Spring Boot or equivalent), relational + NoSQL data, Kafka/streaming, AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD and observability.
• Strong product sense and experience with retail/e-commerce metrics – conversion, retention, unit economics.
• Native or fluent Japanese (N1) and fluent English.
• Bachelor's or Master's in CS, Engineering, Business or equivalent experience; open-source or public technical writing is a plus.
