Job Summary
Assists with the day-to-day operations of Lincoln University’s George Washington Carver and James N. Freeman Farms. Works with the Farm Manager to manage and handle farm livestock within an intensive grazing management system, as well as, recording and maintaining animal records in a computerized database. Coordinates with the Principal Investigators on the various tasks which need to be completed on their respective research plots on the Carver and Freeman Farms.
Supervises student and casual workers at the Carver and Freeman Farms. Operates farm equipment as required to maintain the farm operations, including but not limited to tractors, skid steers, hay equipment, lawn mowers and weed eaters. Assist with scheduling and coordination for events and field days at the farms. Maintain grounds and facilities at the Carver and Freeman Farms.
Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities: Assist with management and day-to-day operations of the Carver and Freeman Farms. Assist with the recording and maintaining of livestock records within a computerized database. Assist with management and maintenance of livestock and grazing systems. Operate and maintain farm equipment.
Coordinate with researchers to facilitate research activities. Coordinate and conduct tours of the Carver and Freeman Farms for various outside groups. Supervise students and casual workers at the Carver and Freeman Farms. Maintain the grounds and facilities located at the Carver and Freeman Farms. Assist with the purchase of supplies and materials for the farms as needed.
Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of day-to-day farm operations (animals, plants, soils, forestry, etc.) Knowledge of cattle and small ruminant production and animal welfare. Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask. Knowledge of organic agriculture production.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture or closely related field. Must be able to operate farm equipment (tractors, skid steer, hay equipment, etc.) Knowledge of organic agricultural production. Experience working with livestock. Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment Valid Driver’s License. Physical Demands Ability to work for prolonged periods in inclement weather conditions.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to move between locations or event spaces as needed Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
