What we are looking for

The SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) ECC Functional Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end design, configuration, and delivery of SAP PM solutions within ECC environments. The role focuses on enabling efficient maintenance operations across asset-intensive industries by aligning business processes, system functionality, and data structures.

This is a delivery-focused role requiring strong functional expertise, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to translate operational maintenance requirements into scalable SAP solutions. The consultant will work closely with cross-functional teams (MM, FICO, Production Planning) to ensure integrated and sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities

1. Solution Design & Functional Delivery

• Lead the design and configuration of SAP PM modules within ECC, aligned to business requirements.
• Translate maintenance strategies (preventive, corrective, predictive) into system-enabled processes.
• Configure and support: o Technical Objects (Functional Locations, Equipment) o Maintenance Plans (time-based, performance-based) o Work Order Management o Notifications and breakdown maintenance processes o Task Lists and Maintenance Items
• Ensure solutions are aligned to standard SAP capabilities, with clear identification of gaps requiring enhancement.

1. Process Optimisation & Business Alignment

• Engage with business stakeholders to understand current maintenance practices and pain points.
• Map and optimise maintenance processes across: o Asset lifecycle management o Planning and scheduling o Execution and confirmation o Cost tracking and reporting
• Drive “process before platform” thinking—ensuring system design reflects efficient, scalable operations.

1. Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with: o MM for spare parts, inventory, and procurement integration o FICO for maintenance cost tracking, settlement, and budgeting o PP where maintenance impacts production scheduling
• Support integration design and testing across modules and external systems.

1. Testing, Deployment & Support

• Lead and support: o Functional Unit Testing (FUT) o System Integration Testing (SIT) o User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
• Prepare functional specifications for enhancements (e.g., ABAP developments where required).
• Support cutover planning and go-live activities.
• Provide post-go-live support and continuous improvement recommendations.

1. Documentation & Governance

• Develop and maintain: o Functional specifications o Configuration documentation o Process maps (BPMN or equivalent) o Training materials
• Ensure all deliverables align with project governance and quality standards.

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Change Support

• Work closely with business users, SMEs, and leadership teams.
• Support change management activities, including: o Training sessions o Process walkthroughs o Adoption support
• Provide clear, structured communication on solution design and impacts. Qualification and Experience:
• Education: o Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: o 5+ years of hands-on experience in SAP ECC Plant Maintenance (PM). o Strong configuration experience across core PM functionalities. o Proven experience in end-to-end SAP implementations or major enhancements. o Solid understanding of integration points with MM, FICO, and PP.
• Skills: o Deep understanding of maintenance operations in industries such as:  Manufacturing  Utilities  Mining / Asset-intensive environments o Ability to align business processes with SAP best practices. o Experience in process mapping and optimisation.
• Certifications: o SAP ECC BASIS certification is a plus.
