About the Role

The Heavy Operator plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery used in construction environments. This position requires the operator to handle equipment such as excavators, cranes, and loaders to move materials, prepare sites, and support various project phases. The Heavy Operator ensures that all machinery is operated in compliance with safety regulations and company standards to minimize risks and maintain productivity.

This role demands a strong understanding of equipment mechanics, site conditions, and operational protocols to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance. Ultimately, the Heavy Operator contributes significantly to the successful completion of projects by maintaining high standards of safety, precision, and efficiency in equipment operation.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years experience operating heavy machinery in construction or related industry. Strong understanding of OSHA and other relevant safety standards. Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions. Team player attitude and willingness to perform other tasks as needed.

Authorization to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications: Experience with multiple types of heavy equipment and attachments. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety guidelines. Completion of advanced safety training or specialized equipment operation courses. Familiarity with GPS and other technology-assisted equipment operation systems.

Basic mechanical skills for troubleshooting and minor repairs. Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy machinery including excavators, cranes, and loaders safely and efficiently according to project requirements. Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks to ensure equipment is in good working condition. Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.

Coordinate with site superintendents and team members to understand project goals and adjust operations accordingly. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly to maintenance or management teams. Assist in site preparation activities such as grading, excavation, and material handling as directed. Maintain accurate logs of machine operation hours, maintenance activities, and any incidents.

Skills: The Heavy Operator utilizes technical skills daily to operate complex machinery with precision and safety, ensuring project timelines are met without compromising quality. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and supervisors to align operations with project objectives and safety protocols.

Problem-solving abilities are frequently applied to identify and address equipment issues or site challenges promptly. Attention to detail is critical when performing inspections and maintenance to prevent breakdowns and accidents. Additionally, adaptability and physical stamina enable the operator to work effectively in diverse environments and conditions, maintaining consistent performance throughout demanding work schedules.
